The New York Mets and Atlanta Braves face off on Tuesday in an MLB showdown at Truist Park. In the first game of this series ti was the Mets that were able to secure the 4-1 victory.
The Mets come into this game with a 54-33 record and the first win of this series was so important that the Braves weren’t able to get closer in the standings. The Mets overall are ranked 5th in terms of their offense and eighth in the league in terms of runs given up per game. As of late the Mets offense has been a bit more inconsistent and will need to be strong in this game. Pete Alonso has hit 23 home runs and driven in 72 RBIs.
On the other side of this matchup is the Braves who sit with a 52-36 record overall and they had won three games in a row before losing on Monday. On Monday the offense couldn’t get anything going scoring only one run and that led to the defeat. The Braves offense is third in the MLB averaging 4.78 runs per game which is 3rd best in the league. Austin Riley has hit 24 home runs and driven in 57 RBIs.
On the mound for the Mets is David Peterson who sits with a 5-1 record and an ERA of 3.48. In his last start against the Cincinnati Reds he went 3.2 innings giving up four hits and three runs.
On the mound for the Braves is Spencer Strider who sits with a 4-2 record and an ERA of 2.60. Over the last two games, Strider has gone 12 innings, giving up only three hits and one run.
The Mets are 9-2 in Peterson’s last 11 starts. The Mets are 0-4 in their last four games during Game 2 of a series. The under is 4-0 in Peterson’s last four games on five days of rest. The Over is 2-1-2 in the Mets last 5 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600.
The first game of this series only had five runs scored and this game might even be lower than that. Strider and Peterson have both been good this year, and both guys are going to make it hard on their opponent to find success scoring runs. Strider only gave up one run in his last start. Look for both teams to struggle to score and the under is going to cash.
