The Los Angeles Angels and Miami Marlins face off on Wednesday in an MLB showdown at the LoanDepot Park. In the first game of this series, it was the Marlins that were able to come away with the 2-1 victory.
The Angels come into this game with a 37-45 record overall, and after such a strong start to the season, they have really struggled the last couple of months. On Tuesday the offense again was an issue only scoring one run, and that led to the defeat. The Angels are averaging only 4.09 runs per game which is 22nd in baseball. Shohei Ohtani has hit 18 home runs and driven in 51 RBIs.
On the other side of this matchup is the Marlins who sit with a 39-40 record overall and they have won six games in a row. The offense hasn’t been exactly elite during the stretch of games, but they have had some elite pitching. Overall this season the Marlins offense is averaging 4.41 runs per game which is 15th in the league. Jazz Chisholm has hit 14 home runs and driven in 45 RBIs.
On the mound for the Angels will be Shohei Ohtani who sits with a 7-4 record and an ERA of 2.68. Over Ohtani’s last three starts he has gone 20.2 innings and given up zero runs total.
On the mound for the Marlins is Trevor Rogers who sits with a 4-6 record and an ERA of 5.56. In Rogers last start against the Washington Nationals, he went five innings, giving up two hits and one run. Rogers was so strong last year, and the hope is that he will get back to that type of pitching this season, and maybe the last game was exactly what he needed to turn around his season.
The Angels have a big advantage on the mound with Ohtani. The Angels bats haven’t always been hot, but Rogers sits with an ERA of 5.56 and the Marlins are going to run up the score in this game. Look for the Angels to cruise to the victory behind Ohtani, and they will cash the run line.
