The Chicago Cubs and Cincinnati Reds face off on Thursday in an MLB showdown at Wrigley Field. The two teams have split the first two games of this series.
The Cubs sit with a 29-46 record overall and even though it’s mostly been a disappointment this season, the offense looked really good on Wednesday and they are going the offense to be good again in this game. The Cubs are averaging 4.23 runs per game which is 19th best in all of baseball. The pitching has been even worse giving up 5.3 runs per game. Patrick Wisdom has hit 14 home runs and driven in 37 RBIs.
On the other side of this matchup is the Reds who sit with a 26-48 record and the pitching again let them down on Wednesday. The pitching has been a big issue all season giving up 5.4 runs per game which is 29th in baseball. The offense has been a bit better, but not good enough with how bad their pitching has been. The top offensive player has been Brandon Drury and he has hit 15 home runs and driven in 39 RBIs.
On the mound for the Cubs is Kyle Hendricks who sits with a 3-6 record and an ERA of 4.90. In his last start against the St. Louis Cardinals, he went 7.1 innings giving up five hits and zero runs.
On the mound for the Reds is Graham Ashcraft who sits with a 4-1 record and an ERA of 3.27. In his last start against the San Francisco Giants, he went eight innings giving up six hits and two runs.
The Reds are 6-1 in Ashcraft’s last seven starts on grass. The Cubs are 1-7 in their last seven games on Thursday. The under is 6-1 in the Cubs last seven home games against a right-handed starter.
Hendricks has been inconsistent, but he looked really good in his last start and I expect he is going to find success again here against this terrible Reds offense. Ashcraft has also been good this season sitting with an ERA of 3.27. Look for both offenses to struggle and the under is going to cash.
