The Philadelphia Phillies and San Diego Padres face off on Saturday in an MLB showdown at Petco Park. These two teams have split the first two games of this series.
The Phillies come into this game with a 37-35 record overall but on Friday night the offense really struggled not getting on the board. The Phillies had a threat in the 9th inning, but couldn’t get a run in. Overall this season the Phillies offense has been strong averaging 4.8 runs per game which is 5th best in the league. Kyle Schwarber has been having a big season hitting 20 home runs and driving in 41 RBIs.
On the other side of this matchup is Padres who sit with a 45-28 record and on Friday night it was the pitching that was the difference. All season the Padres pitching has been strong giving up only 3.76 runs per game which is 4th best in the league. Manny Machado has been the top player for the Padres hitting 12 home runs and driving in 46 RBIs. Machado is still hurt though and it’s unclear if he will be able to go in this game.
On the mound for the Padres is Blake Snell who sits with an 0-4 record and an ERA of 5.46. In his last start against the Colorado Rockies, he went 4.2 innings giving up five hits and five earned runs.
On the mound for the Phillies will be Zach Eflin who sits with a 2-5 record overall and an ERA of 4.43.
The Padres are 0-6 in Snell’s last six home starts. The under is 10-2-1 in Snell’s last 13 starts overall. The over is 7-1 in the Phillies last eight during Game 3 of a series.
The Padres have lost the six home starts by Snell and I don’t see it changing here. Snell gave up five earned runs in his last start and he is going to have some major issues trying to slow down a Phillies offense that is usually strong. Back the Phillies to come away with their second victory of the series here.
