The New York Yankees and Minnesota Twins face off on Wednesday in an MLB showdown at Target Field. On Tuesday it was the Yankees that secured the 10-4 victory.
The Yankees sit with a 40-15 record overall and they look like one of the best teams in baseball. The Yankees offense has been strong all season and in this series, that is what they will lean on to find success. The pitching has also been strong all season giving up only 2.91 runs per game which is the best in baseball. Aaron Judge is having a big season hitting 22 home runs and driving in 45 RBIs.
On the other side of this matchup is the Twins who sits with a 32-25 record overall but the last couple of weeks they have struggled. The Twins have lost two of their last three games and in the two losses they gave up 22 runs total. Injuries have been an issue for this team and it has really hurt the starting pitching of this team. Jorge Polanco has hit seven home runs and driven in 31 RBIs.
On the mound for the Yankees is Nestor Cortes Jr. who sits with a 5-1 record and an ERA of 1.50. In his last start against the Angels, he went seven innings, giving up five hits and zero runs.
On the mound for the Twins is Chris Archer who sits with a 0-2 record and an ERA of 3.89. In his last start against the Detroit Tigers, he went five innings, giving up three hits and one run.
The Twins are 1-4 in their last five games on grass. The Yankees are 6-0 in Cortes last six starts against the American League Central. The over is 4-0-1 in Acher’s last five home starts. The under is 5-1 in the Yankees last six games against a team with a winning record.
Chris Archer was decent in his last start, but that was against the Detroit Tigers. He also has had issues going deep in games, and the Twins bullpen was really worked during Game 1 of the series. Look for the Twins to struggle to score against Cortes Jr and that will be the difference as the Yankees win on the run line.
