The Los Angeles Angels and New York Yankees face off on Thursday in an MLB showdown at Yankee Stadium. In the first game of this series it was the Yankees that secured the 9-1 victory. Wednesday was rained out so this is a doubleheader.
The Yankees come into this game with a 34-15 record overall and anything less than a World Series will be disappointing with how well this team has played this season. Everyone talks about the Yankees offense, but this pitching has been the real star of the team. New York is giving up only 3.061 runs per game which is 1st in the league. The top offensive player has been Aaron Judge who has hit 18 home runs and driven in 38 RBIs. ‘
On the other side of this match-up is the Los Angeles Angels who sit with a 27-23 record overall but they have lost six games in a row. The record looked a lot better a week ago, and they need to stop this downward spiral quickly. The Angels offense has also been good, but their pitching hasn’t been as good. The Angels have four different players that have hit at least 10 home runs.
On the mound for the Angels in Game 1 is Shohei Ohtani who sits with a 3-3 record and an ERA of 3.45. In his last start against the Toronto Blue Jays, he went six innings giving up six hits and five earned runs.
On the mound for the Yankees in Game 1 will be Nestor Cortes Jr who sits with a 4-1 record and an ERA of 1.70.
On the mound for the Angels in Game 2 is Red Detmers who sits with a 2-2 record and an ERA of 4.65. In his last start against the Rangers, he went six innings, giving up five hits and five runs.
On the mound for the Yankees in Game 2 is Jameson Tailion who sits with a 5-1 record and an ERA of 2.49. In his last start against the Rays, he went eight innings, giving up two hits and zero runs.
In Game 1 it’s going to be the Yankees that get the job done. Ohtani has been lights out at times, but he has been the more inconsistent pitcher. Cortes Jr has been lights out most of the season and he will lockdown in this game. The lack of scoring by the Angels will be the difference as the Yankees win.
In Game 2, it will again be the Yankees that secure the victory. Taillon hasn’t gotten enough attention for what he has done this season, Detmers is coming off a game where he gave up five runs. The Yankees offense is elite, and they will win.
