The Texas Rangers and Houston Astros face off on Friday in Friday in an MLB showdown at MinuteMaid Park. In the first game of the series, it was the Astros that secured the 5-1 victory. Heading into the eighth it was 2-1, but hte Astros added three insurance runs.
The Astros come into this game with a 25-14 record overall and even after some changes this offseason they look like they will be one of the best teams in baseball again. The Astros offense has been a bit inconsistent this year, but they have leaned on really good pitching like they did on Thursday to find success. Yordan Alvarez has been crushing the ball hitting 12 home runs and driving in 22 RBIs.
On the other side of this matchup is the Rangers who sit with a 17-20 record and they had won four games in a row before losing Thursday. The offense found a lot of success against the Los Angeles Angels, and they are going to need the offense to get back on the right track here. Corey Seager has had a strong season hitting eight home runs and driving in 19 RBI’s so far this year.
Getting the start for Martin Perez who sits with a 2-2 record and an ERA of 2.01. In his last start against the Red Sox, he went six innings giving up five hits and zero runs.
On the mound for the Astros is Cristian Javier who sits with a 2-1 record and an ERA of 3.20. Overall, Javier has been good this season, but in his last start against the Washington Nationals, he went 3.2 innings giving up eight hits and seven runs.
The Astros are 9-1 in Javier’s last 10 home starts.. The under is 4-0 in the Rangers last four road games. The under is 7-1 in the Astros last eight games against a starter with a WHIP less than 1.15.
I look for a low-scoring game here. Perez is coming off a start where he gave up zero runs, and outside of the last start for Cristian Javier, he has also had a good season. Look for both offenses to struggle, and the under is going to cash.
