The Arizona Diamondbacks and Los Angels Dodgers face off on Monday in an MLB showdown at Dodger Stadium.
The Arizona Diamondbacks come into this game with an 18-17 record overall, but they have lost two games in a row. Over the last two games, they have scored only four runs total, and that has led to the defeats. The Diamondbacks are averaging only 3.54 runs per game and that is nowhere near good enough. Daulton Varsharo has been the top player for the D-Backs hitting six home runs and driving in 16 RBIs.
On the other side of this matchup is the Los Angeles Dodgers who are one of the top teams in the MLB, but the last week hasn’t been a ton of success. The Dodgers lost their series against the Pittsburgh Pirates, and against the Phillies they lost three of four. On Sunday they were down heading into the 9th inning, but scored two runs, and won by a run. The Dodgers have the top offense in baseball, but this last week it’s been the pitching that has really let them down.
Getting the start for the Diamondbacks will be Madison Bumgarner who sits with a 2-1 record and an ERA of 1.78. In his last start against the Marlins, he went 6.1 innings giving up six hits and two runs.
On the mound for the Dodgers will be Tony Gonsolin who sits with a 3-0 record and an ERA of 1.33. In his last start against the Pirates, he went five innings giving up one hit and zero runs.
The Diamondbacks are 5-0 in Bumgarner’s last five starts on five days rest. The over is 4-0 in the Dodgers last four home games. The over is 4-0 in the Diamondbacks' last four road games. The under is 4-0 in Bumgarner’s last four starts during Game 1 of a series.
Both of these pitchers have been good this season, and runs are going to be hard to come by for both squads. The Diamondbacks are averaging less than four runs per game, and they are going to have some major issues in this game getting to that number against Tony Gonsolin. Look for this game to stay under the total.
