The Chicago Cubs and Arizona Diamondbacks face off on Saturday in an MLB showdown at Chase Field. On Friday night it was the Diamondbacks that secured the 4-3 victory.
Coming into the season there were some questions about how good this Chicago Cubs team could be, but not many expected they would be this bad. The Cubs currently sit with an 11-20 record and they have won two of their last three games. The biggest issue has been the pitching which is currently ranked 22nd in the MLB. The offense is also only averaging 4.00 runs per game, and on Friday the offense struggled.
On the other side of this matchup is the Arizona Diamondbacks who sit with an 18-15 record overall, and they have won four of their last five games. The D-Backs aren’t being talked about enough for how much success they have had. The D-Backs offense hasn’t been great, but the pitching has been keeping them afloat, giving up 4.03 runs per game. Daulton Varsho has been the top player hitting six home runs and driving in 14 RBIs.
On the mound for the Diamondbacks will be Zac Gallen who sits with a 2-0 record and an ERA of 0.95. In his last start against the Colorado Rockies, he went seven innings giving up five hits and zero runs.
On the mound for the Cubs will be Kyle Hendricks who sits with a 2-3 record and an ERA of 4.38. In his last start against the Padres, he went 8.2 innings giving up three hits and zero runs.
The Diamondbacks are 6-1 in Gallen’s last seven starts. The Cubs are 0-4 in their last four games during Game 2 of a series. The over is 13-3 in the Cubs last 16 games on Saturday. The under is 8-2-1 in the Diamondbacks' last 11 home games.
Zac Gallen has been lights out this year. Hendricks didn’t give up a run in his last game, but I don’t trust him to bounce back with a strong game. The Cubs might keep it close, but they aren’t going to score enough against Gallen who sits with a 0.95 ERA. Back the Diamondbacks on the money line.
