The Milwaukee Brewers face the Atlanta Braves on Sunday, May 8th, 2022 at Truist Park for game three of a three-game series.
The Atlanta Braves defeated the Milwaukee Brewers by the final score of 3-2 on Saturday night in Atlanta. It was a low-scoring contest between the two teams as both starting pitchers had strong outings. With the win, the Braves tied the series up at 1-1 and Atlanta will look to take the rubber match on Sunday afternoon. The Braves are 13-16 this season with a 7-8 home record, which puts the team in third place in the NL East standings, 6.5 games behind the Mets for first place. The Brewers are now 19-9 this season and 9-5 on the road in 2022. Milwaukee is in first place in the NL Central, but its four-game win streak was snapped with the loss on Saturday night. This game has a 1:35 pm EST start time.
The Milwaukee Brewers are projected to bring left-hander Aaron Ashby to the mound to face the Braves. Ashby is 0-2 with a 2.33 ERA and a 1.45 WHIP through his first 19.1 innings of work this season. Ashby has 22 strikeouts in his first 19.1 innings this season and the one-time top pitching prospect for Milwaukee has pitched well to start the 2022 season after a tough year last year.
The Atlanta Braves are set to send the veteran righty Charlie Morton to the bump for Sunday's contest. Morton is 1-3 with a 6.85 ERA and a 1.73 WHIP through his first 23.2 innings this season. Morton has struggled quite a bit to start the season as his strikeout numbers are down, the walks are up, and his WHIP is very high. Morton will look for a statement start here, but it will not be easy against a tough Brewers lineup that has been heating up.
I like the Brewers here, especially at the price we are getting. Ashby has been the better starter in 2022 and the Brewers lineup should be able to get to Morton. Until Morton shows me some signs of his former self, I have to fade him in this spot.
