The Oakland Athletics face the Minnesota Twins on Saturday, May 7th, 2022 at Target Field for game two of a three-game series.
The Minnesota Twins defeated the Oakland Athletics by the final score of 2-1 on Friday night in the first game of this series. The Twins were led by the starting pitching efforts of Josh Winder, who had eight strikeouts in six innings of one-run (unearned) baseball. The Twins snapped their two-game skid with the win and improved to 16-11 on the year. The Twins have been excellent at home this season, owning a 9-4 record at Target Field. After a strong start to the season, the A's are struggling and they have now lost seven straight games. Oakland is 10-16 on the season but has played a lot better on the road this season than at home, going 6-7 in road contests. The A's will look to snap their losing streak on Saturday afternoon.
The Oakland Athletics are projected to bring right-hander James Kaprielian to the mound for the second game of this series. Kaprielian struggled quite a bit in his first start of the 2022 season, as he was only able to get through 2.0 innings of work, allowed four earned runs, and conceded four walks as well. Kaprielian started the season in the minors as he made a few rehab starts coming back from injury, and he will look to sharpen up in his second outing of the season.
The Minnesota Twins are projected to send right-hander Chris Paddack to the bump to take on the A's. Paddack is 1-2 with a 3.15 ERA and a 1.10 WHIP through his first 20.0 innings of work. After a slow start to the season with his new club, Paddack has pitched really well for the Twins in his last few outings.
I like the Twins in this spot and I think their offense wakes up a bit after a few sluggish performances in a row. Kaprielian has too many issues allowing home runs and walks for me to feel too confident in his game on Saturday. I will lay the run line with the Twins.
