The Toronto Blue Jays face the Cleveland Guardians on Friday, May 6th, 2022 at Progressive Field for game two of a four-game series.
The Cleveland Guardians defeated the Toronto Blue Jays by the final score of 6-5 on Thursday afternoon to take the first game of this series. The Guardians trailed 2-0 early but quickly tied the ballgame up and were able to build a 6-2 lead by the end of five innings. The Blue Jays managed to make things interesting by making it a 6-5 game in the 7th, but the Guardians' bullpen was able to hold on for its 12th win of the season and the team's second-straight victory overall. The Blue Jays are now 16-11 this season and 6-5 on the road, while the Guardians are 12-13 and 5-4 at Progressive Field in 2022. The Blue Jays are three games out of first place in the AL East after also losing their last series against the Yankees, while the Guardians are only 2.5 games out of first in the AL Central behind the Twins.
The Toronto Blue Jays are set to bring right-hander Kevin Gausman to the mound to face the Guardians. Gausman is 2-1 with a 2.27 ERA and a 0.98 WHIP through his first 31.2 innings of the season. Gausman has not allowed a single home run or even a walk in 2022 thus far, as he is in great form to start the year with his new club.
The Cleveland Guardians are projected to send their ace to the mound in Shane Bieber on Friday night. Bieber is also pitching well this season as he owns a 1-1 record with a 2.45 ERA and a 0.95 WHIP through his first 29.1 innings. Bieber has 29 strikeouts this season and has only surrendered six walks to his opponents.
The Guardians are #1 in baseball in team OPS vs. right-handed pitching this season and I think the price we are getting with the home dog is too good to pass up here. I know Gausman has been incredible, but Bieber is good enough to keep Cleveland competitive and I think the bats for the Guardians are currently in better form than Toronto's (as crazy as that sounds). Give me the Guardians here at plus money.
