The Los Angeles Dodgers will play the Chicago Cubs in Game 1 of their series at Wrigley Field on Friday afternoon.
The Los Angeles Dodgers are 16-7 this season and have won four of their last five games. Los Angeles is coming off of a series win against San Francisco, where they won both games. The Los Angeles pitching staff has a 2.23 ERA, a 0.94 WHIP, and a .190 opponent batting average this season. The Dodgers offense has scored 114 runs with a .239 batting average and a .322 on base percentage. Freddie Freeman is batting .299 with three home runs and 12 RBI’s for the Dodgers this season. The projected starter for Los Angeles is Tyler Anderson, who is 2-0 with a 2.55 ERA and a 0.96 WHIP over 17.2 innings pitched this season.
The Chicago Cubs are 9-15 this season and have lost five of their last six games. Chicago is coming off of a series loss against the White Sox, where they lost both of the games. The Chicago pitching staff has a 4.17 ERA, a 1.30 WHIP, and a .247 opponent batting average. The Cubs offense has scored 100 runs with a .240 batting average and a .322 on base percentage this year. Ian Happ is batting .292 with two home runs and 11 RBI’s this season for the Cubs. The projected starter for Chicago is Drew Smyly, who is 1-2 with a 2.79 ERA and a 1.09 WHIP this season.
The Dodgers are one of the best teams in baseball and are playing very well right now. The Cubs are below .500 and have lost five of their last six games. There are a lot of similarities between the two teams offensively, but the Dodgers have a massive edge in pitching. One thing to keep in mind is the travel from LA to Chicago for the Dodgers, but I don't anticipate that causing much of an issue. The Cubs are at home, but are not in good enough form for me to take them against this all-star lineup. Anderson should have another strong start here and I like the Dodgers to win by at least 2.
