The Kansas City Royals face the Baltimore Orioles on Friday, May 6th, 2022 at Camden Yards for game one of a three-game series.
The Kansas City Royals had the day off on Thursday as they wrapped up their season series with the Cardinals earlier in the week. The Royals dropped two of three in that set with their interleague rivals, pushing Kansas City's overall record to a measly 8-15. The Royals' biggest struggles stem from their lack of offense, as the team has a .218 batting average and a very low .317 slugging percentage. The Royals own a 2-6 road record this season and will look for any signs of improvement this weekend.
The Baltimore Orioles were able to steal the fourth game of their series with the Twins on Thursday to earn a 2-2 series tie. The O's, despite being 6 games below .500 on the year at 10-16, have a winning record at Camden Yards this season at 7-6. The Orioles will look to take advantage of a struggling Royals team this weekend in a feasible home series.
The Kansas City Royals are projected to bring right-hander Carlos Hernandez to the mound to face the Orioles. Hernandez is 0-1 with a 6.00 ERA and a 1.89 WHIP in his first 18.0 innings of the season with the Royals. Hernandez has struggled quite a bit in 2022 and with only eight strikeouts compared to 10 walks allowed in 18.0 innings, the future is not the brightest either.
The Baltimore Orioles are set to bring righty Jordan Lyles to the bump on Friday. Lyles is 2-2 with a 4.50 ERA and a 1.62 WHIP in his first 26.0 innings with his new team. Lyles is coming off a very strong start against the Red Sox in which he allowed only one earned run through 6.0 innings with six strikeouts as well.
I think the Orioles have the advantage on the mound here and they are playing the much better baseball as of late as well. I will take them here at a reasonable price, as I think the bats can back up Lyles.
