The Pittsburgh Pirates and Detroit Tigers face off on Wednesday in an MLB showdown at Comerica Park. This will be a doubleheader, and we have a free play on each of the games.
The Pirates sit with a 9-13 record overall, but they have lost five of their last six games. In the last game on Sunday against the San Diego Padres, the offense only managed two runs, and they were defeated by three. Michael Chavis has been the top plate for the Pirates hitting three home runs and driving in 12 RBIs.
On the other side of this matchup is the Detroit Tigers who sit with a 7-14 record overall and they have lost seven of their last eight games. In four of the last five games, the Tigers offense scored three runs or less, and they need to find a way to get the offense going here. Javier Baez has been the top player for the Tigers hitting two home runs and driving in 11 RBIs.
On the mound for the Pirates in Game 1 is Jose Quintana who sits with an 0-1 record and an ERA of 3.32. In his last start against the Milwaukee Brewers, he went five innings giving up four hits and one run.
On the mound for the Tigers in Game 1 is Michael Pineda and in his last start, he went five innings giving up seven hits and four runs.
On the mound for the Tigers in Game 2 is is Tarik Skubal who sits with a 1-2 record and an ERA of 3.05. In his last start against the Twins, Skubal struggled giving up six hits and six runs in five innings.
The Tigers are 1-7 in their last eight games overall. The under is 3-0-1 in Quintana’s last four starts overall. The under is 4-0 in the Tigers last four against the National League Central. The Pirates are 0-4 in their last 4 road games against a team with a home winning percentage of less than .400.
In Game 1 it’s going to be the Pirates that find success. Quintana hasn’t been awful this year, but he hasn’t gotten a ton of run support. Pineda gave up six runs in his last start and the Tigers will run up the score. Back the Pirates.
In Game 2 I expect Skubal is going to lock down on the mound, and runs are going to be hard to come by for the Pirates. The Tigers bats are also going to struggle much like they did last week. Look for a low-scoring game and the under will cash.
