The New York Yankees face the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday, May 2nd, 2022 at the Rogers Centre for game one of a three-game series.
The New York Yankees are red hot and are now in possession of the league's best record at 16-6. The Yankees have swept their last three series against three teams under .500 in the Cleveland Guardians, Baltimore Orioles, and Kansas City Royals. The Yankees are 1.5 games ahead of these Blue Jays going into this series, so only one win in this three-game set is needed to hold that first place position. On the other side, the Toronto Blue Jays took care of business as the favorites over the Houston Astros on Sunday afternoon, defeating the Stros 3-2 at home. Toronto dropped the first game of that series but won the final two to earn the series win and get to eight games above .500 at 15-8 this season. The Jays are also an impressive 9-4 at home this season and will look for another win at the Rogers Centre on Monday night.
The New York Yankees are projected to bring left-hander Jordan Montgomery to the mound for the first game of this series. Montgomery is 0-1 with a 2.70 ERA and a 0.95 WHIP in his first 20.0 innings of the season with the Yankees. Montgomery has pitched well in his mid-rotation role for the Yankees in 2022 thus far and he will look for another quality outing here. Monty did struggle quite a bit against this Blue Jays lineup in 2021, but he is yet to face them this season.
The Toronto Blue Jays are set to send right-hander Ross Stripling to the bump to face a red hot Yankees lineup. Stripling is 0-0 with a 3.60 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP through his first 15.0 innings of the season. Stripling had a 4.50 ERA against the Yankees in 2021 and he has had mixed results in his first few outings of the 2022 campaign.
I have to take the Yankees here as they are just playing the better ball on both sides of it right now. This series should be very competitive, as was the first one in the Bronx, but I do think the Yankees are a step above Toronto currently.
