The Arizona Diamondbacks face the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday, May 1st, 2022 at Busch Stadium for game four of a four-game series.
The Arizona Diamondbacks defeated the St. Louis Cardinals by the final score of 2-0 on Saturday afternoon. Miles Mikolas and Merrill Kelly participated in an intense pitcher's duel in that contest, and in the 8th inning, the D-Backs were able to find the only offense of the game with two solo home runs. Nick Ahmed and Ketel Marte hit the two homers to give the Diamondbacks their second-straight win of this series. With the series 2-1 in favor of Arizona, the Cardinals will look to earn the win at home on Sunday to at least tie the series back up. The Diamondbacks are now 10-12 this season and have been one of the more profitable teams in the league due to their ability to play well on the road and as an underdog. The D-Backs own an impressive 11-8 record against the spread as the dog this season. The Cardinals are now 11-9 this season and 5-5 at Busch Stadium. The Cardinals are now 3.0 games behind the Brewers for first place in the NL Central standings.
The Arizona Diamondbacks are projected to bring right-hander Zach Davies to the mound to face the Cardinals. Davies is 1-1 with a 5.40 ERA and a 1.47 WHIP through his first 18.1 innings of the season with the D-Backs. Davies has allowed 10 walks and three home runs in his first few outings as a Diamondback.
The St. Louis Cardinals are set to bring right-hander Jordan Hicks to the mound for game four of the series. Hicks has been featured in this opener role a few times this season and has had mixed results. In the last two games that Hicks has started in, his team has not been able to put a run on the board in 5-0 and 3-0 shutout losses.
Although the Cardinals have not been the strongest against right-handed pitching, I do think they can get to Davies here. Davies has struggled against the Cardinals in the past, including in 2021 in which he had a 4.50 ERA and allowed 9 walks in 18.0 innings. I will lay the run line with St. Louis.
