The Arizona Diamondbacks face St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday, April 30th, 2022 at Busch Stadium for game three of a four-game series.
The Arizona Diamondbacks defeated the St. Louis Cardinals by the final score of 6-2 on Friday night to even the series up at 1-1. The D-Backs scored five unanswered runs from the third inning to the seventh inning after going down 1-0 early on a Paul Goldschmidt solo home run. The Diamondbacks' pitching staff was sharp in the win, only allowing five base hits and two earned runs. Arizona is now 9-12 this season and 4-5 on the road in 2022 as well. The Cardinals fall to 11-8 this year with the loss and are now 2.0 games behind the Brewers in the NL Central standings. The Cardinals are only 5-4 at home this season, as St. Louis has actually fared a tad better in road games thus far.
The Arizona Diamondbacks are projected to bring right-handed pitcher Merill Kelly to the mound to take on the Cardinals. Kelly is 1-1 with a 1.69 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP in his first 21.1 innings for the Diamondbacks this season. Kelly has been one of, if not the strongest starter in Arizona's rotation this season and he has given his team a chance to win in each of his starts. Kelly will look to produce similar numbers as Madison Bumgarner did on Friday night.
The St. Louis Cardinals are set to bring right-hander Miles Mikolas to the bump to take on the D-Backs. Mikolas is 1-0 with a 1.21 ERA and a 0.94 WHIP in his first 22.1 innings this season with the Cardinals. Mikolas has also performed at a very high level in 2022, and he is coming off a fantastic performance against the New York Mets in which he did not allow an earned run in 7.0 innings of work.
I think that this game will be rather low-scoring, and because of that reason, I think taking the D-Backs on the run-line makes sense. Kelly has kept Arizona in ball games this year and I have liked the way the Diamondbacks have looked as of late offensively. Give me the D-Backs +1.5.
