The Houston Astros face the Texas Rangers on Thursday, April 28th, 2022 at Globe Life Field for game three of a four-game series.
The Houston Astros defeated the Texas Rangers on Wednesday night by the final score of 4-3. The Astros have now won back-to-back games in this series as they will now look for the series win on Thursday in game four of this set. Houston took a lead in the fifth inning after a bases-clearing double by Kyle Tucker with the bases loaded. The Astros got into a little trouble in the ninth, allowing a run to score, but Houston was able to hold on for its ninth win of the year. That win gets the Astros back to .500 at 9-9 this season. The Texas Rangers dropped to 6-12 on the year and a rough 2-7 at home as well. The Rangers are in last place in the AL West standings and are right at the bottom of the American League standings as well.
The Houston Astros are projected to bring the legendary right-hander Justin Verlander to the mound to face the Rangers. Verlander is 1-1 with a 1.89 ERA and a 0.74 WHIP through his first 19.0 innings of work this season. Verlander has earned 20 strikeouts in his first three outings of 2022 and has looked sharp in his first season back from injury.
The Texas Rangers are set to send left-hander Martin Perez to the bump to take on the Astros on Thursday. Perez is 0-2 with a 3.86 ERA and a 1.36 WHIP through his first 14.0 innings of the season. Perez has fared well, for the most part, this season, as he has not allowed a single home run, has limited walks, and has earned 12 strikeouts in 14.0 innings.
Although Perez has impressed this season, I cannot pass up Verlander here. I think the Astros can get to Perez here as he is not necessarily known for missing many bats. I will take the Astros on the moneyline here as I think Verlander and company can take care of business in this one.
