The Chicago Cubs and Atlanta Braves face off on Thursday in an MLB showdown at SunTrust Park. On Tuesday, it was the Braves that came away with the 3-1 victory. In Game 2 it was the Cubs that secured the 6-3 victory. The Cubs scored three runs in the top of the ninth to secure the victory.
The Cubs have really struggled this season and currently sit with an 8-10 record. Even on Wednesday, the Cubs only scored three runs through nine innings, and it wasn’t until extra innings that the offense took off. Seiya Suzuki has been the top player for the Cubs hitting four home runs and driving in 14 RBIs. Patrick Wisdom is also having a good season hitting three home runs and driving in 13 RBIs.
On the other side of this matchup is the Atlanta Braves who sit with an 8-11 record overall and they have lost three of their last four games. Over the last three games, the Braves offense has scored ten runs, and they need to find a way to get the offense going. Ozzie Albies has been the top player for the Braves hitting six home runs and driving in 11 RBI’s.
Getting the start for the Cubs is Drew Smyly who sits with an 1-1 record and an ERA of 2.45. In his last start against the Pirates he went five innings giving up six hits and four runs.
On the mound for the Braves is Kyle Wright who sits with a 2-0 record and an ERA of 1.06. In his last start against the Marlins, Wright gave up four hits and zero runs.
The Cubs are 9-20 in their last 29 games during Game 3 of a series. The Braves are 17-8 in their last 25 home games. The over is 5-2 in the last seven meetings between the two teams. The under is 6-2 in the Cubs last eight road games.
I don’t trust the Cubs offense to find any offensive success against Kyle Wright, and that will be the difference in this game. In Wright’s last start against the Marlins, he pitched six shutout innings. The Cubs game where they scored 22 runs has inflated their stats, and their offense at best has been inconsistent.. Look for the Braves to win this game on the run line.
