The Seattle Mariners face the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday, April 27th, 2022 at Tropicana Field for game two of a three-game series.
The Seattle Mariners took advantage of a few key errors and mishaps by the Rays in the fourth inning of game one in this series, scoring seven runs on Josh Fleming and company. Seattle would never look back and went on to win the game on Tuesday night by the final score of 8-4. The Mariners are red hot as they have now won four straight games and five of their last six as well. Seattle is 11-6 this season and is currently in first place in the AL West standings, ahead of the Angels by a 0.5 game. The Rays dropped to 9-8 with the loss and are still in third place in the AL East standings by 2.5 games. The Rays are 6-5 at home this season while the Mariners are 4-4 on the road in 2022.
The Seattle Mariners are projected to start lefty Marco Gonzales in this one. Gonzales is 1-1 with a 3.29 ERA in his first 13.2 innings of work this season. Gonzales has had a history of having issues with the long ball, and already this season he has conceded four home runs in a rather short sample of work. Gonzales has limited walks but the hits and homers may suggest that his sub-3.50 ERA is rather unsustainable.
The Tampa Bay Rays are set to bring right-hander Drew Rasmussen to the mound to take on the Mariners. Rasmussen is 0-1 with a 5.25 ERA in his first 12.0 innings of work in 2022. Rasmussen has struggled a bit to start the season and will look for a sharp performance against a red hot lineup in the Mariners.
I am not too confident in either of these starting pitchers, but with the Rays currently being a top-10 team in team OPS vs. left-handed pitchers, I like the Rays' chances at getting a bounce-back revenge win here at the Trop. I will take the Rays on the money line.
