The Chicago Cubs face the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday, April 27th, 2022 at Truist Park for game two of a three-game series.
The Chicago Cubs were defeated by the Atlanta Braves by the final score of 3-1 on Tuesday night in Atlanta. The Braves got one step closer to getting back to .500 as they earned their eighth victory of the season and their fifth win at home. The Braves used a two-run fifth inning to break the 1-1 tie and make it 3-1. That score would remain as the Braves' bullpen was perfect with three shutout innings and two strikeouts. The Cubs are now 7-10 this season and are 3-4 in road games as well. The Braves move to 8-10 on the year and are in third place in the NL East standings behind the Phillies by one game and the Mets by 5.5 games. The Braves were able to snap a two-game losing skid and will look to build off their recent victory on Wednesday.
The Chicago Cubs are projected to bring the young lefty, Mark Leiter Jr, who is 0-1 with an 11.05 ERA in his first 7.1 innings of work this season. Leiter Jr has struggled quite a bit in his first few outings of 2022, as he currently has walked six batters in only 7.2 innings of work with two home runs allowed as well.
The Atlanta Braves are set to bring the veteran right-hander Charlie Morton to the bump to take on the Cubs. Morton is 1-2 this season with a 6.32 ERA in his first 15.2 innings of work this season. Like Leiter Jr, Morton has also had a rough start to the year and has had issues with the long ball and walks. Morton is allowing far too many baserunners and not missing enough bats to be effective currently, but we certainly know he is capable of being a #1 for this rotation.
The over is looking good in my eyes in this one, as I could see the Braves scoring six or more runs themselves here. Morton has not been the sharpest and the Cubs' bats have been really strong this season for the most part. I will take a shot with the over here at Truist, a rather hitter-friendly place.
