The San Diego Padres face the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday, April 26th, 2022 at Great American Ballpark for game one of a three-game series.
The San Diego Padres lost two of three in their last series to the Los Angeles Dodgers at Petco Park this weekend. The Padres are now 10-7 on the year and find themselves in fourth place of a very competitive NL West division standings. The Padres have played seven road games this season and own a 4-3 road record in 2022 thus far. The Padres and Reds already met in San Diego this season, and the Padres were able to sweep that three-game series.
The Cincinnati Reds were finally able to snap their double-digit losing streak with a win on Sunday afternoon against the Cardinals. The Reds still own the worst record in baseball at 3-13 and have a 1-4 record at Great American Ballpark this season as well. The Reds are hitting below .200 as a team with a .186 batting average. The team ERA is also rather high at 5.40.
The San Diego Padres are projected to bring right-hander Joe Musgrove to the mound for game one of this series. Musgrove has been fantastic this season with a 2-0 record with a 1.89 ERA. Musgrove also has an excellent 0.74 WHIP and has struck out 21 batters in 19.0 innings of work.
The Cincinnati Reds are sending left-hander Reiver Sanmartin to the bump to take on the Padres. Sanmartin is 0-2 with a steep ERA of 7.11 and a high WHIP of 1.58. Sanmartin has had an issue with walks this year as he has allowed six free passes compared to only eight strikeouts in his first 12.2 innings of work this season. Sanmartin will look for a sharp performance against a Padres team that hit him pretty hard in this last start.
I have to side with the Padres here on the road as Musgrove is the far better starter and the Padres are just playing the better ball as of late. San Diego dominated the Reds in the series in San Diego, and I do not see any reason for things to change in Cincinnati this week either.
