The Chicago Cubs and Atlanta Braves face off on Tuesday in a National League MLB showdown at SunTrust Park.
The Cubs come into this game with a 7-9 record overall and they lost three of the four games against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Cubs now have a tough schedule ahead of them, so there has to be some big disappointment about where they sit. The Cubs offense has been strong, but their pitching staff has been inconsistent. The Cubs are averaging 5.25 runs per game which is second in baseball. Seiya Suzuki has been the top player hitting four home runs and driving in 13 RBI’s.
On the other side of this matchup is the Atlanta Braves who sit with a 7-10 record overall and they lost two of their last three games against the Miami Marlins. Two games ago against the Marlins the pitching staff gave up nine runs, and that led to the defeat. The Braves pitching staff has been awful all season giving up 4.82 runs per game which is 26th best in the league. Ozzie Albies has been the top player for the Braves hitting six home runs and driving in 11 RBIs. Marcell Ozuna has also hit four home runs and driven in 10 RBIs.
Getting the start for the Cubs will be Marcus Stroman who sits with an 0-2 record and an ERA of 8.78. In his last start against the Rays he went 4.1 innings giving up eight hits and eight runs.
On the mound for the Braves will be Max Fried and in 18 innings he has given up eight runs. In his last start against the Dodgers though he went seven innings giving up two hits and zero runs.
The Cubs are 1-6 in their last seven games against the National League East. The Braves are 4-0 in their last four games played on Tuesday. The over is 4-1-1 in the Cubs last six games following an off day. The over is 4-1 in the Braves last five games during Game of 1 of the series.
Fried was strong in his last start and I expect the Cubs bats are going to be ice cold again in this game. Look for the Braves to score five or six runs with Stroman struggling and that will be the difference as the Braves get the job done. Back the Braves on the run line.
