The San Francisco Giants face the Washington Nationals on Saturday, April 23rd, 2022 at Nationals Park for game two of a three-game series.
The San Francisco Giants defeated the Washington Nationals by the final score of 7-1 on Friday night as it was all San Francisco from start to finish. The Giants used a seven-run second inning to take a big lead early and never look back. The Nationals were able to add a consolation prize run in the bottom of the eight on a Maikel Franco solo homer, but it was all for nothing as the Nats lost their third-straight ballgame and moved to 6-10 on the year and 3-6 at home in 2022. The Giants are now 9-5 on the year and are a solid 5-3 away from home this season, keeping them in the hunt for second place in the NL West standings. These two teams will meet two more times this weekend before playing each other again next week in San Francisco.
The San Francisco Giants are projected to bring left-hander Alex Wood to the mound to face the Nationals on Saturday. Wood is 1-0 with a 1.93 ERA through his first 9.1 innings of the season with the Giants. Wood owns a 1.29 WHIP this season with 11 strikeouts and only three walks allowed on the year.
The Washington Nationals are projected to send right-hander and former Giant, Aaron Sanchez to the mound for this contest. This will be Sanchez's first start in 2022 and he will face his former club one year after he was a member of the Giants in 2021. Sanchez owned a sub-4.00 ERA in 2021 in limited work with the Giants. Sanchez has had issues with free passes in his career, as his BB/9 in his career stands at 4.0. Sanchez will have to be careful against this strong San Francisco lineup, a lineup that has done well against right-handed pitching so far this season.
I like the Giants to continue their winning ways on Saturday and take down the Nats and clinch a series win. The Nationals are clearly struggling as of late and I don't think things get better in this one.
