The Colorado Rockies and Detroit Tigers face off on Saturday in a couple of MLB showdowns at Comerica Park. Friday’s game was rained out so this will be a doubleheader.
There were some questions coming into this season for the Colorado Rockies but so far they have gotten out to a nice start. The Rockies sit with an 8-4 record, and against the Philadelphia Phillies, they won two of the three games. The bats have been strong, but the pitching has actually been the strength, especially in the wins. C.J. Cron has been having a big season hitting six home runs and driving in 16 RBI’s.
On the other side of this matchup is the Detroit Tigers who sit with a 5-7 record, but they beat the New York Yankees 3-0 in the last game. All eyes on Saturday will be on Cabrera who currently sits with 2,999 hits.
Getting the start for the Rockies in Game 1 will be Austin Gomber who sits with an 0-1 record and an ERA of 7.00. In his last start against the Cubs he went 4.1 innings giving up eight hits and five runs.
Getting the start for the Tigers in Game 1 will be Beau Brieske who is getting called up from Triple A. He was the best pitcher in the Tigers' minor league system last year.
There have been no starting pitchers announced for the second game.
The Rockies are 8-3 in their last 11 games overall. The Tigers are 9-4 in their last 13 interleague games. The Rockies are 1-7 in the last eight meetings against Detroit. The under is 15-5-1 in the last 21 meetings. The under is 8-2 in the last ten meetings in Detroit.
I expect there will be some nerves for Brieske in the first game, and the Rockies are going to find offensive success. I also expect Gomber is going to struggle and the Tigers are going to find offensive success. Look for both teams to run up the score and the over is going to cash.
In the second game, I expect the Rockies are going to be the team that finds success. They are the deeper team, and have more talent with the offense. Look for a few Rockies' home runs, and they will win on the money line.
