The Miami Marlins face the Atlanta Braves on Friday, April 22nd, 2022 at Truist Park for game one of a three-game series.
The Miami Marlins took care of business on Thursday night against the St. Louis Cardinals in a 5-0 victory at home. The Marlins did lose the first two games of the series but were able to salvage the final game for a much-needed victory. The Marlins are now 5-7 on the season and moved to 4-3 at home as well. Unfortunately for the Fish, Miami will be on the road for this series with the defending World Series champs. The Marlins will look to be sharper with runners in scoring position, as Miami has not been able to consistently drive runners in at the plate.
The Atlanta Braves had the day off on Thursday after wrapping up their tough West Coast trip to San Diego and Los Angeles (Dodgers). The Braves split the four-game set with the Padres but lost a three-game series to the Dodgers in their most recent series. The Braves are now 6-8 this season, but I don't expect Atlanta to have a losing record for much longer. Ronald Acuna Jr has started his rehab starts with the Braves Triple-A affiliate and should be returning soon, which should boost an already solid lineup. The Braves starting rotation has struggled a bit this season, but that has not been the case for game one starter, Kyle Wright.
The Miami Marlins are projected to send the youngster Trevor Rogers to the mound for this contest. Rogers is 0-2 with a 12.15 ERA through his first two outings of the year. Rogers has allowed 10 hits and five walks in a very short inning frame, which is a bit concerning this early in the year. Rogers will look to lower both his ERA and his 2.25 WHIP in this outing.
As mentioned before, the Braves are going with surprise starter Kyle Wright in game one. Wright had struggled in the starting role in his major league career up until this season, but so far in 2022, he has looked like a completely different pitcher. Wright has 15 strikeouts in 11.0 innings, owns a 1-0 record with a 1.64 ERA, and has a fantastic 0.73 WHIP early in 2022.
I like the Braves in this first game of the series as I think Atlanta can get to Rogers early here. The Marlins' bats have been very inconsistent this year Miami overall has really struggled on the road, owning a 1-4 away record. I will take the Braves on the moneyline here.
