The Oakland Athletics face the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday, April 17th, 2022 at the Rogers Centre for game three of a three-game series.
The Oakland A's did it again as they earned yet another outright upset win as a steep underdog. The A's are 5-4 on the year but have not been respected much by the oddsmakers, and that continues in this game as the A's are +215 on the moneyline. The A's defeated the Blue Jays by the final score of 7-5 on Saturday afternoon. Oakland played in its ninth-straight road game to start the season and the A's will have one more road contest on Sunday before getting to go to Oakland for the home opener against the Orioles. Both teams are 5-4 on the year. The A's are behind the Astros in the AL West standings and the Blue Jays are tied with the Yankees for first in the AL East. This will be the rubber match of this three-game set, as these two teams split the first two games of this series.
The Oakland Athletics are projected to start right-hander Adam Oller on Sunday afternoon. Oller struggled in his big league debut as he allowed five earned runs and two home runs in only 1.1 innings against the Tampa Bay Rays. Oller did earn three strikeouts in those 1.1 innings, but the three walks, five hits, and five runs have to be a concern for him going forward.
The Toronto Blue Jays are set to send the youngster Alek Manoah to the bump to take on the A's. Manoah was excellent in his first start of the 2022 season and I expect another strong outing from the southpaw on Sunday. Manoah struck out seven batters in 6.0 innings of scoreless baseball in his season debut against the Yankees in a 3-0 win in the Bronx.
In this particular matchup, I have to take the Blue Jays on the run-line. The A's have embraced the underdog role, but they are outmatched severely in this starting pitching matchup and I think the Toronto bats show up in a big way on Sunday.
