The Los Angeles Angels face the Texas Rangers on Sunday, April 17th, 2022 at Globe Life Field for game four of a four-game series.
The Los Angeles Angels defeated the Texas Rangers by the final score of 7-2 on Saturday to take a two-to-one series lead in this four-game set. The Angels have won back-to-back games after dropping the first game of this AL West rivalry series in Texas. The Angels' lineup has come alive, as the Halos have scored 15 runs in their last two games and are looking like the team that many expected they would be before the season. The Angels are now a game over .500 at 5-4 and the Rangers have dropped to a season-worst four games below .500 at 2-6. After competing well with the Blue Jays on the road, the Rangers have really struggled on this homestand and are 1-4 at Globe Life Field thus far.
The Los Angeles Angels are projected to send left-hander Jose Suarez to the mound to take on the Rangers. Suarez allowed two earned runs, four walks, and two hits in 4.1 innings in his season debut. Suarez was able to strike out two batters in that outing, but for the most part, he was ineffective against a very good Astros lineup. Suarez will have to watch the free passes, as he just about allowed a walk per inning in his first start of the year.
The Texas Rangers are set to bring the southpaw veteran Martin Perez to the bump for Sunday's contest. Perez struggled quite a bit in his first start of 2022. It was Perez's first start back on his original team in the Rangers and in that outing, Perez allowed seven hits, one walk, and three earned runs in only four innings of work against the Colorado Rockies.
I like the Halos here as I cannot back Perez in this spot, especially with how well the Angels' bats are looking as of late. Perez has had issues with allowing too many baserunners and although he is good at getting out of jams, it is not something I would want to sit through on Sunday afternoon. I think the Angels take advantage of the free passes and base hits they can rack up here.
