The Philadelphia Phillies and Miami Marlins face off on Friday in an MLB showdown at Marlins Park.
When these two teams faced off on Thursday it was the Marlins that secured the 4-3 victory. The Phillies scored two runs in the 7th inning and got the game within 1 run, but it wasn’t enough.
The Phillies are struggling coming into this game having lost three games in a row and in two of those games they scored three runs or less. Two games ago against the New York Mets, the pitching gave up nine runs. Bryce Harper has been the top player hitting a home run and driving in five RBI’s. Nick Castellanos and Rhys Hoskins have both also hit a home run and driven in four runs.
On the other side of this matchup is the Miami Marlins who lost two of their last three games, but they have gotten good pitching most of the season. The Marlins are giving up only 3.83 runs per game which is 10th best in the MLB. In this game, the Marlins are going to need strong pitching because the offense has been inconsistent and can’t really be trusted.
Getting the start for the Phillies will be Zach Eflin and in his first start against the Oakland Athletics he went four innings giving up two hits and zero runs.
Getting the start for the Marlins will be Pablo Lopez and in his first start against the San Francisco Giants he went five innings giving up three hits and one runs.
The Phillies are 1-6 in their last seven road games. The under is 4-0 in the Marlins last four games. The under is 4-0 in the Marlins last four games during game 2 of a series. The over is 7-1 in Eflin’s last eight road starts against a team with a losing record. The Marlins are 4-0 in Lopez’s last four starts.
The Marlins have won the last four games started by Lopez and I expect he is going to find success in this game. Look for this game to be lower scoring, but the Marlins will find enough offensive success to come away with a victory in this game.
