The Cincinnati Reds and Los Angeles Dodgers face off on Friday in an MLB showdown at Dodger Stadium. This game was close until the bottom of the 8th when the Dodgers offense really opened up and they were able to win 9-3.
The Reds have gotten out to a slow start and coming into this game they sit with a 2-5 record overall. The Reds offense has been strong this season, but their pitching has been an issue and it cost them again on Thursday. The offense is averaging 4.5 runs per game while they are giving up 5.33 runs per game. The top player this season has been Tyler Stephenson and he has hit two home runs and driven in six runs.
On the other side of this matchup is the Dodgers who sit with a 4-2 record and their offense looked really good on Thursday. The Dodgers are averaging five runs per game which is 5th in baseball. They are also giving up 3.4 runs per game which is seventh best in the league. There really hasn’t been a star with the offense, but there have been a lot of guys who have had strong outputs so far. Catcher WIll Smith has been one of those guys hitting a home run and driving in six RBI’s.
Getting the start for the Reds will be Vladimir Gutierrez and in his first start he went 4.1 innings and he gave up six hits and two runs.
On the mound for the Dodgers will be Tony Gonsolin and in his first start of the season against the Colorado Rockies he went three innings giving up five hits and one run.
The Reds are 1-5 in their last six games against a team with a winning record. The Dodgers are 7-1 in Gonsolin’s last eight home starts. The over is 4-0 in the Dodgers last four home games. The under is 8-1 in the Dodgers last nine games played on Friday. The under is 3-0-1 in Gutierrez’s last four starts on the road.
The Reds pitching has been awful all season, and Gutierrez has been one of the reasons why. I expect the Dodgers offense is going to have no issue getting to him early and often and this game is going to get out of hand early. Look for the Dodgers to score eight or nine runs and they will win in blowout fashion. Back the Dodgers -2.5.
