The Philadelphia Phillies and Miami Marlins face off on Thursday in an MLB showdown at Marlins Park.
The Marlins have gotten out to a slow start losing four of their first five games, and although they have good pitching, the offense hasn’t been great. On Tuesday the Angels only scored four runs, but the Marlins only managed three and that led to the loss. The Marlins are giving up only four runs per game which is 10th best in the league so it’s a bit shocking they have only one win. Jazz Chisholm has been the top player for the Marlins hitting two home runs and driving in five RBI’s.
On the other side of this matchup is the Philadelphia Phillies who sit with a 3-3 record overall but they have lost two games in a row. The pitching staff wasn’t good, giving up nine runs and that led to the defeat. Nick Castellanos and Rhys Hoskins have been the top two players for the Phillies both hitting a home run and driving in four RBI’s.
Getting the start for the Phillies will be Kyle Gibson and he had quite the start in his first one of the season. Against the Oakland Athletics, Gibson went seven innings giving up only two hits and he had 10 strikeouts.
On the mound for the Marlins will be Sandy Alcantara and he looked decent in his first start of the year against the San Francisco Giants. Alcantara went five innings giving up three hits and two earned runs.
The Phillies are 1-6 in their last seven road games. The Phillies are 0-4 in their last four road starts by Gibson. The Marlins are 1-4 in their last five games overall. The under is 4-0 in the Marlins last four games overall. The under is 3-0-1 in the Phillies last four games overall.
The trends point towards the under and I expect that will continue to be the case in this one. Look for Gibson and Alcantara to both have strong starts in this game, and with both offenses struggling this game is going to be lower scoring. Back the under to cash.
