The Detroit Tigers and Kansas City Royals face off on Thursday in an American League Central MLB showdown at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City.
THe Kansas City Royals come into this game with a 2-3 record overall and in their last game against the St. Louis Cardinals they lost 6-5. The Royals are averaging 3.8 runs per game while their defense is giving up 6.8 runs per game. The top player this season has been Andrew Benintendi and he has hit a home run and driven in four RBI’s. Salvador Perez has also hit a home run and driven in three RBI’s.
On the other side of this matchup is the Detroit Tigers who sit with a 2-3 record overall and they are coming off a series loss against the Boston Red Sox. On Wednesday the offense scored seven runs, but the pitching staff really let them down, and that led to the two run defeat. Javier Baez has been the top player for the Tigers this season hitting a home run and driving in four RBI’s. He is dealing with a sore thumb and it’s unclear if he will be able to go in this game. Miguel Cabrera isn’t getting any younger but he has also hit a home run and driven in three RBI’s.
Getting the start for the Tigers will be Casey Mize and in his first start against the White Sox he went five innings giving up seven hits and four runs. He only had two strikeouts in that game and he is going to need to be better in this game.
The Tigers are 4-9 in their last 13 games on grass. The Royals are 2-5 in their last seven games. The under is 16-6-1 in the Tiger last 23 games overall. The Tigers are 1-5 in the last six meetings against the Royals.
The Tigers have struggled against the Royals the last few years and I expect that is going to be the case again in this game. Casey Mize looked awful in the first game and he is going to be lit up again in this game for the Royals. Back the over to cash.
