The San Diego Padres face the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday, April 13th, 2022 at Oracle Park for game three of a three-game series.
The San Diego Padres were one of the more disappointing teams in the league last season as the expectations were sky-high, yet the team dealt with many injuries and underperformers and the team finished with a below .500 record. So far this season, San Diego has looked strong overall and brings a winning record into this rubber match with the Giants on Wednesday night. The Padres are hoping to add Fernando Tatis Jr back in the lineup at some point this season, and this team will be in an even better spot than it is now. On the other side, this Giants team won the most games in baseball in 2021 and although we can safely say that this San Francisco team is not going to win 107 games again in 2022, the Giants are not going to be an easy team to face at any point this season, especially with its strong pitching staff.
The San Diego Padres are projected to bring left-hander Sean Manaea to the mound to face the Giants. Manaea was a late acquisition by the Padres in the off-season and he pitched lights out, no-hit baseball in his first 7.0 innings with his new team. Manaea got the win in that game over the D-Backs and racked up seven strikeouts with only one walk. Manaea will look to repeat his strong start in this one, but he will be facing a much more dangerous lineup in the Giants and a lineup that did a ton of damage on Tuesday night to Yu Darvish.
The San Francisco Giants are set to send right-hander Logan Webb to the mound. Webb also had a lot of success in his first start of the season as he pitched 6.0 innings of one-run baseball with three strikeouts. Webb had a career year in 2021 and although he may not be able to replicate those numbers again in 2022, he is still atop of this loaded Giants rotation this season.
I think we see a much lower-scoring game than we saw on Tuesday and I like the under here. This pitching matchup sets us up for a defensive-minded game, closer to what we saw on Monday night between these two.
