The Boston Red Sox face the New York Yankees on Sunday, April 10th, 2022 at Yankee Stadium for game three of a three-game series.
This is your Sunday Night Baseball game on ESPN and the Yankees will go for the sweep as they have won the first two games of this series. In the first game of the season, these two clubs went into extra-innings and the Yankees prevailed in the 11th with a 6-5 walk-off win on a Josh Donaldson single. In the second game of the series on Saturday afternoon, the Yankees were powered by Anthony Rizzo and Giancarlo Stanton (again) as each hit their second home run of the season to give the Yankees the four runs it needed in a 4-2 win over the Sox.
The Boston Red Sox are projected to bring right-hander Tanner Houck to the mound to face the Yanks. Houck went 1-5 with a 3.52 ERA last season with the Red Sox. Houck did finish the season with a 2.58 FIP and certainly, he was not deserving of his 1-5 record, as he was a much better pitcher than his record suggested he was in 2021. Houck does have a bit of a walk problem as he has a 3.1 BB/9 rating in his career and he surrendered 9 walks in only 15.0 innings during spring training.
The Yankees are projected to send the southpaw Jordan Montgomery to the hill to take on the Red Sox. Monty was a solid option for the Yankees in the middle of their rotation in 2021, as he finished with a 6-7 record and a 3.83 ERA. He was another pitcher that could have a winning record with better run support, and the Yankees will look for him to be a solid three or four guy in the rotation this season.
This should be an entertaining game as it always is between these hated rivals. I think the Red Sox can get to Jordan Montgomery early and I think overall we will see plenty of offense in this game. The Red Sox have been terrible at Yankee Stadium in recent matchups but I think Boston salvages the final game of this series.
