The Colorado Rockies and Los Angeles Dodgers clash in a MLB NL West division matchup from Coors Field on Saturday night.
The Los Angeles Dodgers will be out to build on their 5-3 win over the Rockies from Friday’s matchup. Gavin Lux led the Dodgers with two RBIs while Mookie Betts had a double with an RBI and Trea Turner had an RBI as well in the victory. Chris Taylor went 2 for 4 with a double, while Will Smith, Max Muncy and Freddie Freeman each had a base hit to cap off the offense for the Dodgers as a team in the winning effort. Walker Buehler got the win after allowing just two runs on four hits while striking out five over five innings of work. Craig Kimbrel closed out the 9th for the save. Tony Gonsolin will start here and was 4-1 with a 3.23 ERA for the Dodgers last season.
The Colorado Rockies will try to bounce back from their loss to the Dodgers last time out. Charlie Blackmon, Jose Iglesias and Randal Grichuk each had an RBI to make up the scoring for Colorado in the losing effort, with Blackmon logging a double. Elias Diaz, Ryan McMahon and Kris Bryant each had a double as well, while C.J. Cron and Connor Joe each had base hits of their own to finish off Colorado’s offense as a team in the losing effort. Kyle Freeland ended up with the loss after allowing all five runs on five hits while striking out six over 3.2 innings of work. German Marquez will get the start here and was 12-11 with a 4.40 ERA last season.
I’m not a Tony Gonsolin fan by any stretch of the imagination, and German Marquez is a solid arm for the Rockies that’s used to pitching in Colorado. However, we got a taste of how lethal the Dodgers' lineup can be in game one and while I’m not going to back the Dodgers in every single game, I worry that the Rockies’ lineup won’t be able to hang here. I’ll side with the Dodgers on the RL in this one.
