The Houston Astros and Los Angeles Angels face off Friday in an American League West MLB showdown at Angel Stadium. The Astros were able to beat the Angels 3-1 on Thursday night.

The Los Angeles Angels have a ton of pressure on them this season. The Angels have two of the best players in baseball in Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout, but they still have struggled to make the playoffs. Even with all the offensive talent surrounding this team, the offense didn’t look great on Thursday night.

The Astros have high expectations for this season and even after losing Carlos Correa to the Minnesota Twins this is a very talented squad. The scoring was started on Thursday in the second inning with a run crossing the plate. Alex Breggman hit a solo home run in the 8th inning to extend the lead to 2-0. The very next batter Yordan Álvarez added another home run. If the offense is good in this game, the Astros are going to be in good shape to come away with the victory.

Getting the start for the Astros will be Jake Odorizzi and he was inconsistent last season. With the Astros he had 24 appearances and finished with a 6-7 record and an ERA of 4.21. In this game the Astros are going to need Odorizzi to have a strong game.

On the mound for the Angels will be Patrick Sandoval and he had a nice bounce back year last season. Sandoval struggled in 2021 but last year he had a 3-6 record but an ERA of 3.62. At times the Angels didn’t give him a ton of run support.

The Astros are 49-22 in their last 71 Friday games. The Angels are 5-11 in their last 16 games overall. The over is 21-10 in the last 31 meetings. The Astros are 43-20 in their last 63 meetings against the Angels. The Astros are 6-2 in the last eight meetings in Los Angeles.

Even though the Angels offense has some star power, I just don’t trust them to run up the score and their lack of offense is going to be the difference. Odorizzi is going to have a good start and the scoring will be an issue for the Angels. Look for the Astros to to get to Patrick Sandoval and the Astros will win this game on the run line.
