The Houston Astros will host the Atlanta Braves for Game 6 as the World Series resumes from Minute Maid Park in Houston. The Astros did the impossible on Sunday night in order to keep this series going. They beat the Braves at home becoming the first team to do so this postseason. The Astros will need to defend their home field in order to keep this series alive as the Braves hold a 3-2 lead.
Adam Duvall’s Grand Slam in the first inning of Game 5 put Atlanta up early. By the third inning, Houston quickly tied it up. The Braves retook the lead in the bottom of the third on a solo homerun from Freddie Freeman, but with the bases loaded in the fifth, the Braves gave up a walk to tie, and eventually a single that drove in two more. The Astros would pull away in the second half of the game to send it back to Houston.
The Braves plan to start Max Fried in this potential championship clencher. He has earned a decent 3.65 ERA and 1.13 WHIP on the road this season and has posted a 3.49 ERA and 1.08 WHIP in nighttime starts.
The Astros will send Luis Garcia to the mound for Game 6. He’s a rookie and also got lit up in Game 3, surrendering three hits, a run, and a season-high four walks, in under 4 innings of play. At home, he’s averaging a 2.71 ERA and 1.00 WHIP.
This will likely be a lower scoring game after Sunday’s shootout. The under is 5-1-1 in the last 7 meetings in Houston and with the stakes being so high look for a tight contest with hits coming at a premium.
Historically, MLB teams who lead a series by a 3-2 margin have gone on to win said series 69 percent of the time. The Astros are 1-5 in their last 6 World Series home games, so I don’t see the return to Houston providing that much of an advantage. The Braves are 5-1 in their last 6 games following an off day and 6-0 in their last 6 after allowing 5 runs or more in their previous game. I like the Braves to end the series on the road.
