We are approaching the end of the regular season with less than a week to go! We have 12 games and 24 teams in action on Thursday, September 30th, 2021. Let's take a look at each game and make some picks.
Milwaukee Brewers -105 St. Louis Cardinals -115 Total: 9
With two below-average lefties on the mound in the Brewers' Brett Anderson and the Cardinals' J.A. Happ on the mound, I like the over. I think we see both teams score plenty as they get ready for postseason baseball.
Pick: Over 9
Los Angeles Angels -145 Texas Rangers +125 Total: 9
I like the Angels' Alex Cobb in this matchup even on the road. Cobb has been undervalued all season long and against a weak lineup like the Rangers, I think he and the Angels deliver.
Pick: Los Angeles Angels -145
Chicago Cubs -125 Pittsburgh Pirates +105 Total: 8
This game will not be seeing any of my money but if I had to choose, I would lean towards the Cubs. Chicago has been awful as of late but I think overall, the Cubs are the better team albeit slightly.
Pick: Chicago Cubs -125
Boston Red Sox -220 Baltimore Orioles +180 Total: 10
The Red Sox bats are not where they need to be and this series has been a lot more low-scoring than most had thought. That does not stop the books from making this total very steep at 10 and I like the over as well. I think the Red Sox do most of the damage here, but I expect the O's to put up a fight offensively as well.
Pick: Over 10
New York Yankees +113 Toronto Blue Jays -135 Total: 8.5
With the Blue Jays' ace on the mound, this is a must-win game if Toronto wants a chance at postseason baseball. I think Ray delivers for the Jays and Toronto gets to Corey Kluber early in this one.
Pick: Toronto Blue Jays -135
Miami Marlins +156 New York Mets -190 Total: 7.5
I know both the Marlins and Mets have been miserable at the plate all season long but with two young and tired starters here, I think we see some offense. Both pitchers are struggling and I think the runs come in here.
Pick: Over 7.5
Tampa Bay Rays +160 Houston Astros -190 Total: 8.5
The Rays and Astros have their divisions locked up and I expect this game to be a briskly played contest. I think both team's struggle to score and pitching/defense reign supreme. I will take the under.
Pick: Under 8.5
Philadelphia Phillies +126 Atlanta Braves -150 Total: 8.5
I think we see both the Phillies' Kyle Gibson and the Braves' Ian Anderson exit this game rather early as I expect the runs to be found early and often on Thursday. The Braves love right-handed pitching and that is exactly what they get in Gibson here.
Pick: Over 8.5
Detroit Tigers +155 Minnesota Twins -180 Total: 8.5
The Twins' Joe Ryan has the advantage of not pitching in the majors for a majority of the season as his arm is a lot fresher. I think he and the Twins earn a blowout win over their division rivals in the Tigers.
Pick: Minnesota Twins -1.5
Cleveland Indians -125 Kansas City Royals +105 Total: 7.5
The Indians own the Royals and I think we see another strong Cleveland performance on Thursday night with Shane Bieber getting the start. I think runs are hard to come by for both teams but I expect the Indians to pull it out in the end.
Pick: Cleveland Indians -125
Arizona Diamondbacks +180 San Francisco Giants -220 Total: 9
Trust me, I do not love the way the Diamondbacks are playing just as much as the next guy. I just cannot lay a -220 price with a Giants team that is focused on the postseason, not on beating down the D-Backs. I will take Arizona on the money line based solely on value with Madison Bumgarner.
Pick: Arizona Diamondbacks +180
San Diego Padres +200 Los Angeles Dodgers -250 Total: 9
Who would have thought that at this point in the season, the Padres would be a long shot to beat the Dodgers in a regular-season game to this extent? I think the Dodgers take it out on their NL West rivals and win this game by at least two runs.
Pick: Los Angeles Dodgers -1.5
