We have a full slate of MLB games on Wednesday, September 29, 2021, with all 30 teams set to play. Check out our best picks below, as well as the updated betting odds.
Washington Nationals +130 Colorado Rockies -105 Total: 12
The Rockies Peter Lambert made his first start of the season last time out and have up two solo home runs in a loss to the Giants. He will face a Nationals’ lineup that has a .285 average and 14 home runs over the past two weeks. Look for Washington to take this one on the road.
Pick: Washington Nationals +130
Chicago Cubs -105 Pittsburgh Pirates +165 Total: 7.5
The Cubs’ Kyle Hendricks has struggled against the Pirates this season, allowing a 7.45 ERA with a .289 OBA. Meanwhile, the Pirates have yet to announce a starter and their bullpen has been one of the league’s worst with a 4.58 ERA this season. Look for this one to go over.
Pick: Over 7.5
New York Yankees +140 Toronto Blue Jays -115 Total: 8.5
Gerrit Cole has limited this Toronto lineup to a .202 average this season, and he has pitched even better during his night starts. Toronto’s Jose Berrios has allowed a home run in each of his last five starts and will face a Yankees lineup that has averaged two per game over the past two weeks. Give me New York.
Pick: New York Yankees +140
Boston Red Sox Baltimore Orioles Total:
The Orioles’ Zach Lowther has a 7.55 ERA and 1.66 WHIP through five starts, and control has been the issue. The Red Sox are a team that will make you pay for mistakes, as they lead the league in hitting over the past two weeks and rank second with RISP on the year. Give me Boston in a game they cannot afford to lose with the season winding down.
Pick: Boston Red Sox
Miami Marlins -120 New York Mets +125 Total: 7.5
Miami’s Elieser Hernandez has seemingly gotten worse as the season has gone on but should have the edge here. The Mets are hitting just .211 over the past week with 2.7 runs per game and their starter Taijuan Walker has allowed multiple runs in each of his past five starts. Give me the Marlins to steal one in New York.
Pick: Miami Marlins -120
Philadelphia Phillies -115 Atlanta Braves +150 Total: 8
It has been a down year for the Phillies’ Aaron Nola, and his numbers against the Braves have not been any better. He has allowed six home runs in four starts against them, the most he has allowed to a team this season. Atlanta’s Max Fried has had similar results, with a .300 OBA against the Phillies. Take the over here.
Detroit Tigers -105 Minnesota Twins +115 Total: 9
The Tigers have been limiting Casey Mize’s innings as the season has gone on, going no more than three innings in any September start. Michael Pineda on the other hand has looked great for the Twins with just four earned runs allowed across his last four starts. With the Tigers bullpen still a concern, Minnesota has the better shot here. I would avoid this game, however.
Pick: Minnesota Twins +115
Milwaukee Brewers -110 St. Louis Cardinals +155 Total: 7.5
St. Louis has been red hot, and over the last seven days they are hitting .319 with 8.3 runs per game. The Brewers are hitting just .199 over the same stretch. Take the Cardinals regardless of who is pitching for these clubs.
Pick: St. Louis Cardinals +155
Los Angeles Angels -115 Texas Rangers +160 Total: 9
The Angels’ Jason Junk has pitched better than his numbers indicate through three starts, with most of his runs given up via the longball. The Rangers rank last in the majors with 19 home runs over the past 30 days, so should not give Mr. Junk much trouble. Take the Angels on the road.
Pick: Los Angeles Angels -115
Cincinnati Reds -115 Chicago White Sox +115 Total: 8.5
As a team, the Reds are hitting .331 as a team over the last week, with 7.8 runs per game. The White Sox’ Carlos Rodon has been just as effective on the mound, with a .208 OBA in September with a .178 OBA at home this season. Tough one to call, but I will lean Chicago as their offense has continued to swing the bat well.
Pick: Chicago White Sox +115
Cleveland Indians +135 Kansas City Royals -115 Total: 9
The Indians’ Zac Plesac and the Royals’ Daniel Lynch have allowed multiple runs in each of their past four starts. These offenses rank in the top third of the league in hitting over the past two weeks. Take the over. Pick: Over 9
Tampa Bay Rays +100 Houston Astros +155 Total: 9
Luis Garcia has been excellent at home for the Astros, and in his past two starts overall he has allowed one run over 11.1 innings. Not to be outdone, the Rays’ Drew Rasmussen has allowed just five runs over his last five starts. Fade the total here.
Pick: Under 9
Arizona Diamondbacks +230 San Francisco Giants -260 Total: 8.5
No reason to bet the Diamondbacks here; they have nothing to play for and they are outmatched. Starter Merrill Kelly has a 5.56 ERA on the road this season, and the Giants have hit him well in their five matchups. The Giants need this win and have the edge at home; lay the juice.
Pick: San Francisco Giants -260
San Diego Padres Los Angeles Dodgers Total:
Easy pick with Max Scherzer on the mound for the Dodgers, as they have not lost in his 10 starts since joining the team. He did give up five runs in his last start, but that was on the road at Colorado so do not read into that too much. The Dodgers will get it done at home.
Oakland Athletics -111 Seattle Mariners +101 Total: 8
The A’s Frankie Montas has been hit hard by the Mariners this year, allowing seven runs in just 12 innings. However, he has allowed just three hits in his last two starts, lasting seven innings in each. The Mariners lineup has not been getting it done, and the A’s need this one more. Back Oakland.
Pick: Oakland Athletics -111
