We have a full slate of MLB games on Tuesday, September 28, 2021, with all 30 teams set to play. Check out our best picks below, as well as the updated betting odds.
Miami Marlins New York Mets Total:
This will be the first game of a doubleheader, so a seven-inning affair is on the docket. With two solid pitchers in the Mets’ Marcus Stroman and the Marlins’ Trevor Rogers combined with both teams hitting under .220 over the last week, I am leaning under. Fade the total.
Pick: Under
Chicago Cubs +101 Pittsburgh Pirates -111 Total: 9
The Pirates’ Mitch Keller has done well in this matchup, with a 2.57 ERA and .236 OBA against the Cubs. The Cubs have been awful away from Wrigley this season and are hitting just .229 as a team. Take the Pirates at home.
Pick: Pittsburgh Pirates -111
Boston Red Sox -260 Baltimore Orioles +230 Total: 9.5
In six starts since returning from the IL, Boston’s Chris Sale is 5-0 with a 2.57 ERA and just over a strikeout per inning. Baltimore is hitting just .224 with three runs per game over the past two weeks. Give me the Sox on the road.
Pick: Boston Red Sox -260
New York Yankees +110 Toronto Blue Jays -121 Total: 9.5
Hyun Jin Ryu limited the Yankees to just three hits and no runs when these two played a few weeks ago. Since then, the Yankees rank third with 26 home runs and are averaging just over five runs per game. Look for New York to get their revenge on the road.
Pick: New York Yankees +110
Miami Marlins New York Mets Total:
The Marlins have yet to announce a starter for game two of this double-header so will likely look to the bullpen to get through this one. Their bullpen has been a strength and will face a Mets’ lineup that is averaging just three runs per game over the past two weeks. Take the Marlins.
Pick: Miami Marlins
Philadelphia Phillies +110 Atlanta Braves -121 Total: 8
The Phillies’ Zach Wheeler has dominated this matchup, with a 1.35 ERA and .200 OBA in four starts against Atlanta. The Braves’ Charlie Morton has also pitched well of late and has a 3.06 ERA in this matchup, so look for both pitchers to hunker down in a crucial divisional battle.
Pick: Under 8
Detroit Tigers -111 Minnesota Twins +101 Total: 7
The Tigers have been heating up from the plate over the past seven days, hitting .302 as a team. The Twins have also been getting it done, with a .274 ream average over the same stretch. With Minnesota yet to announce a starter and the Tigers’ Tyler Alexander looking vulnerable in his last two outings, we should see some scoring in this one.
Pick: Over 7
Milwaukee Brewers St. Louis Cardinals Total:
These are two offenses heading in different directions; the Cardinals lead the majors in hitting and have averaged 7.2 runs per game over the past two weeks. The Brewers rank last with a .184 average over the same stretch. With no clear edge on the mound, take St. Louis in this one.
Pick: St. Louis Cardinals
Los Angeles Angels -105 Texas Rangers -105 Total: 9
The Rangers A.J. Alexy and the Angels’ Packy Naughton have given up a combined 20 runs in their past two outings and will be backed by bullpens that rank near the bottom of the MLB in baserunners allowed on the season. Look for this one to go over.
Pick: Over 9
Cincinnati Reds +157 Chicago White Sox -172 Total: 9.5
The Reds’ rookie Riley O’Brien will make his first MLB appearance in Chicago. He will be welcomed by a White Sox lineup that ranks third in hitting over the past 30 days. Chicago has been one of the toughest places to play this season, so the smart money is on them here.
Pick: Chicago White Sox -172
Cleveland Indians Kansas City Royals Total:
Cleveland’s Aaron Civale has not looked good in this matchup, getting hit hard by the Royals in one start this season. Brady Singer was able to limit this Indians offense to two runs over seven innings in his last start. The Royals have also been one over the better offenses in baseball over the past two weeks.
Pick: Kansas City Royals
Tampa Bay Rays +125 Houston Astros -135 Total: 9
The Astros have lost four straight heading into this game but will be back home where they have won six straight series. Jose Urquidy is 4-1 with a 3.15 ERA at home and pitched seven shutout innings against the Rays earlier in the year. Give me the Astros.
Pick: Houston Astros -135
Washington Nationals +135 Colorado Rockies -145 Total: 11.5
We have two underperforming lefties set to start in this one, the Nationals’ Patrick Corbin and the Rockies’ Kyle Freeland. These teams have crushed southpaws, with the Nationals ranking first and the Rockies third in average against lefties this season. Look for this one to go over.
Pick: Over 11.5
Arizona Diamondbacks +230 San Francisco Giants -260 Total: 8
The Giants are trying to make a push to clinch the division and will have a great opportunity against the Diamondbacks. They have won 14 of 16 games against them and Arizona is averaging just three runs per game over the past seven days. Lay the juice.
Pick: San Francisco Giants -260
San Diego Padres +165 Los Angeles Dodgers -180 Total: 8
The Dodgers earned the sweep with just four runs allowed in three games the last time the Padres came to town. Walker Buehler has a 2.03 ERA and .209 OBA in four starts against San Diego this season. Back the home team.
Pick: Los Angeles Dodgers -180
Oakland Athletics -121 Seattle Mariners +110 Total: 8
Seattle’s Yusei Kikuchi has hit a rouch patch of late, with a 7.82 ERA and .357 OBA during the month of September. The A’s have been averaging 5.1 runs per game over the past two weeks, so they should be able to put up some runs in this plus-matchup. Take Oakland on the road.
Pick: Oakland Athletics -121
