MLB Games on Friday, September 24, 2021
We have a full slate of MLB games, with all 30 teams set to play on Friday, September 24, 2021. Check out our best picks below, as well as the updated betting odds.
St. Louis Cardinals -160 Chicago Cubs +150 Total:
The Cubs’ Justin Steele has had an up and down year, but he will face a tough St. Louis lineup that ranks fourth in the majors with a .787 OPS against lefties this season. Chicago has remained near the bottom of the league in hitting all season, so it will be unlikely they can keep pace with the Cardinals in game one.
Pick: St. Louis Cardinals -160
Pittsburgh Pirates +180 Philadelphia Phillies -220 Total: 8.5
The Phillies’ Kyle Gibson is 7-3 with a 2.56 ERA at home this year, and he pitched 6.2 solid innings in which he allowed just two runs to this Pirates lineup earlier in the season. The Pirates rank last in scoring this season, while the Phillies have been one of the more potent offenses over the last 30 days. Lay the juice on Philadelphia.
Pick: Philadelphia Phillies -220
Texas Rangers -111 Baltimore Orioles +101 Total: 9
The Orioles’ Alexander Wells has allowed five runs in each of his last two starts and has allowed nearly two hits per inning at home this season. The Rangers’ Spencer Howard has not gone more than three innings in his last five starts, and their bullpen has been unreliable this year. Take the over.
Pick: Over 9
Chicago White Sox -145 Cleveland Indians +125 Total: 7
Dylan Cease was hit hard the last time he faced the Indians, allowing six runs and eight hits in 3.1 innings pitched. The White Sox are averaging just over five runs per game with a .270 team average over the last 30 days. Take the over.
Pick: Over 7
Kansas City Royals +101 Detroit Tigers -111 Total: 9
The Royals have been one of the better hitting teams in the majors over the last two weeks, ranking second with a .289 average while averaging 4.9 runs per game. The issue has been pitching, but they will have one of their more reliable starters in Carlos Hernandez getting the nod in this one. He has a 2.60 ERA with a strikeout per inning in three road starts this season. Take the Royals on the road.
Pick: Kansas City Royals +101
Miami Marlins +245 Tampa Bay Rays -310 Total: 8
The Rays and the Marlins both rank near the bottom of the league over the last two weeks, with both squads hitting under .230. The Marlins’ Edward Cabrera has allowed multiple runs in each of his five starts this year. The Rays will be relying on their bullpen to eat nine innings as they have yet to announce a starter; their bullpen ranks third with a 3.25 ERA this season. Lay the juice.
Pick: Tampa Bay Rays -310
New York Yankees -111 Boston Red Sox +101 Total: 9
We have a pitchers’ duel setup between the Yankees’ Gerrit Cole and the Red Sox’ Nathan Eovaldi. Eovaldi has looked much better in this rivalry series and will be at home where he is 6-3 with a 2.99 ERA this season. Take the Red Sox at Fenway.
Pick: Boston Red Sox +101
Washington Nationals +170 Cincinnati Reds -190 Total: 9
The Nationals are getting hot from the plate and have averaged just over five runs per game over the last two weeks. The Reds are watching their playoff hopes begin to dwindle away and have been hitting just .220 with 3.4 runs per game over the same stretch. Take the road dogs.
Pick: Washington Nationals +170
St. Louis Cardinals Chicago Cubs Total:
St. Louis’s Jack Flaherty has remained tough to hit all year, allowing a .196 OBA with over a strikeout per inning this season. Both teams are swinging the bat relatively well, so the Cardinals edge on the mound will be the difference here.
Pick: St. Louis Cardinals
New York Mets +135 Milwaukee Brewers -145 Total: 8.5
Milwaukee has continued to struggle from the plate, hitting just .199 over the last seven days. The Mets have also struggled, and rank near the bottom of the league against left-handed pitching. The Brewers’ Eric Lauer has not allowed more than a run in each of his last four starts. Fade the total.
Pick: Under 8.5
San Francisco Giants -195 Colorado Rockies +165 Total: 11.5
The Rockies’ Peter Lambert will make his first start in a few weeks, and he was not pitching well before the injury. The Giants’ Alex Wood has continued to pitch well and is 2-0 with a .209 OBA in three starts against the Rockies this season. Give me San Francisco.
Pick: San Francisco Giants -195
Toronto Blue Jays -140 Minnesota Twins +130 Total: 9
Toronto has finally cooled off from the plate, hitting just .206 over the past week. The Twins have been equally inept and had a tough time against Jose Berrios in their matchup a week ago. Look for this to go under.
Pick: Under 9
Seattle Mariners -120 Los Angeles Angels +100 Total: 8
The Angels have been the worst team offensively over the past month, hitting .217 as a team with just over 3 runs per game. The Mariners’ Logan Gilbert has been pitching well, allowing just five runs in his last 22.1 innings with 23 strikeouts. Take the road team.
Pick: Seattle Mariners -120
Houston Astros -105 Oakland Athletics -115 Total: 8
Houston has gotten the better of this series, going 9-4 on the year. The A’s Frankie Montas has been the exception, going 2-1 with a 2.04 ERA against the Astros. Houston’s Zack Grienke has also dominated Oakland, going 2-0 with just one run allowed in 14 innings this year. Fade the total here.
Pick: Under 8
Los Angeles Dodgers -216 Arizona Diamondbacks +196 Total: 9.5
The odds are tempting for the home dogs here, but the Diamondbacks’ offense is hitting just .222 with under four runs per game over the past 30 days. Los Angeles’s Tony Gonsolin has a 2.51 ERA and .196 OBA in two starts against Arizona this season. Give me the Dodgers.
Pick: Los Angeles Dodgers -216
Atlanta Braves +105 San Diego Padres -125 Total: 8
The Braves are starting to get hot in time for one last playoff push. They have 12 home runs and a .272 average in their last seven games. Starter Max Fried is 5-0 with an OBA under .200 since August 1, and the Padres have not done particularly well against southpaws this year. Take the Braves on the road.
Pick: Atlanta Braves +105
