We have a full slate of games on Friday, September 17, 2021, with 30 teams set for some MLB regular season action. Check out our best picks below, as well as the updated betting odds.
Cleveland Indians +155 New York Yankees -175 Total: 8.5
The Yankees have gotten back on track and have won three of four against the Indians this season. Cleveland’s Eli Morgan has allowed 14 runs in his last 17.1 innings, and the team is 1-3 in those starts. New York leads the majors with 16 home runs over the last seven days. Take the home team.
Pick: New York Yankees -175
Colorado Rockies +110 Washington Nationals -125 Total: 8.5
The Nationals’ Josiah Gray has given up at least five runs in each of his last three starts, allowing well over a hit per inning. However, they have been swinging the bat well of late, hitting .275 as a team with five runs per game over the past week. The Rockies’ Kyle Freeland has also struggled, losing his last two starts while giving up 11 runs in 10.1 innings. Look for this one to go over.
Pick: Over 8.5
Minnesota Twins +180 Toronto Blue Jays -208 Total: 9.5
The Twins’ Michael Pineda has allowed just one run in two starts since returning from the IL. Toronto’s Hyun Jin Ryu has continued to struggle since his rough August that saw him post a 6.21 ERA. Take a chance on the Twins here.
Pick: Minnesota Twins +180
Baltimore Orioles +305 Boston Red Sox -370 Total: 10
Boston has hit the Orioles’ Keegan Akin well in the past, going 13 for 36 with two home runs. The Red Sox have also continued to rip from the plate, with a .811 OPS with 5.7 runs per game over the last two weeks. No value in the money line so takes the Sox and the runs.
Pick: Boston Red Sox -1.5
Detroit Tigers +195 Tampa Bay Rays -227 Total: 8
Detroit’s Casey Mize allowed three runs in just two innings against the Rays just last week, but he was at home where he has not been as sharp this season. Tampa Bay has not named a starter for this one, and their staff has allowed a .271 average with a 5.14 ERA over the last two weeks. With Detroit also swinging the bat well, take the road dogs in what should be a close game.
Pick: Detroit Tigers +195
Los Angeles Dodgers -175 Cincinnati Reds +155 Total: 8.5
Los Angeles’ Walker Buehler is one of the early favorites for the Cy Young and has ran through the Diamondbacks in three starts this season. In those starts he has allowed just two runs and six hits with 25 strikeouts. The Reds offense has scored just over three runs per game over the last two weeks. Give me the Dodgers.
Pick: Los Angeles Dodgers -175
Philadelphia Phillies -111 New York Mets +100 Total: 7.5
The Phillies’ Zac Wheeler has allowed just five runs over his last 18.2 innings with 23 strikeouts, and the team is 3-0. The Mets Taijuan Walker has allowed four home runs through four starts against the Phillies this season, and he has yet to earn a win. Take Philadelphia on the road.
Pick: Philadelphia Phillies -111
Pittsburgh Pirates +130 Miami Marlins -150 Total: 7.5
The Marlins are averaging four runs per game over the last two weeks, while the Pirates are averaging five. Both he Marlins Elieser Hernandez and the Pirates Wil Crowe have allowed multiple runs in each of their last four starts. Look for this one to eclipse the low total.
Pick: Over 7.5
Chicago White Sox -208 Texas Rangers +180 Total: 7.5
The Rangers’ Kolby Allard has given up a home run in 10 straight games, including two per game in each of the last five. Texas’ .669 OPS over that span ranks near the bottom of the majors. The White Sox are hitting .271 over the last two weeks. Give me the Sox.
Pick: Chicago White Sox -208
Arizona Diamondbacks +225 Houston Astros -263 Total: 9
The Diamondbacks’ Humberto Castellanos has pitched well since coming over from the Astros in the offseason. However, he has struggled on the road, allowing a .281 OBA this season. The Astros have been the most potent offense in the league all season, lay the juice at home.
Pick: Houston Astros -263
Chicago Cubs +195 Milwaukee Brewers - 227 Total: 8.5
The Brewers’ Adrian Houser has only allowed four hits in his last 15 innings pitched and has a brilliant 2.54 ERA at home this season. The Cubs offense has struggled all year, especially on the road, so Houser should be able to keep his hot streak going. Give me Milwaukee.
Pick: Milwaukee Brewers - 227
Seattle Mariners -116 Kansas City Royals +105 Total: 9
Kansas City has averaged just under six runs per game over the last two weeks, while the Mariners have averaged 5.2. Over the same stretch, these rotations have struggled, both posting ERAs over five. Take the over.
Pick: Over 9
San Diego Padres -111 St. Louis Cardinals +100 Total: 7.5
Miles Mikolas has looked bad for St. Louis in his last four starts, allowing at least four runs in each. The Padres have yet to announce a starter for this one but should be able to rely on their bullpen. They have been consistent all season, ranking fourth with a 3.35 ERA. Take the Padres on the road.
Pick: San Diego Padres -111
Oakland Athletics +105 Los Angeles Angels -116 Total: 7.5
The Angels Shohei Ohtani has struggled on the mound in his last three starts, allowing 12 runs with more than a hit per inning. The offense has followed suit, hitting just .227 with 3.5 runs per game over the last two weeks. Oakland is hitting .272 with just over six runs per game over that same stretch. Take the road dogs.
Pick: Oakland Athletics +105
Atlanta Braves +135 San Francisco Giants -155 Total: 7.5
The Braves have been one of the better teams in the league of late, but have a tough matchup here. The Giants have won 66 percent of their home games, and starter Logan Webb is 5-0 with a 1.66 ERA at Oracle Park this season. Their offense also ranks second in the majors with a .289 average over the last two weeks. Give me the home team.
Pick: San Francisco Giants -155
