We have 16 games and all 30 teams ready to go in the MLB on Tuesday, September 14th, 2021. Let's take a look at each game and make some picks.
(Game One) Cleveland Indians +113 Minnesota Twins -135 Total: 6.5
In the first game of this doubleheader, I like the under with two young pitchers in the Indians' Triston McKenzie and the Twins' Joe Ryan. Ryan had a perfect game deep into his last start against these Indians and I think runs are hard to come by yet again.
Pick: Under 6.5
Cincinnati Reds -165 Pittsburgh Pirates +139 Total: 8.5
I think the Pirates' Dillion Peters has pitched well this season and the Reds have really struggled against left-handed pitching. I will take the Pirates on the money line here and may look at the first five innings as well.
Pick: Pittsburgh Pirates +139
Milwaukee Brewers -200 Detroit Tigers +165 Total: 9
With the Brewers' Freddy Peralta here I am going to take the under. Peralta and the Brewers' staff have been fantastic on the year and I think Wily Peralta of the Tigers keeps the Brewers' bats at bay as well.
Pick: Under 9
New York Yankees -335 Baltimore Orioles +265 Total: 9
The Yankees are huge favorites with Gerrit Cole on the mound but I am going to take the over here. I could see the Yankees scoring nine runs themselves, and Cole is rather susceptible in starts like these.
Pick: Over 9
Miami Marlins +145 Washington Nationals -165 Total: TBA
I am going to take the Nationals but this is certainly not my favorite game on the board. The Nationals hit left-handed pitching well and that is what they get in the Marlins' Jesus Luzardo, so I will side with Washington in D.C.
Pick: Washington Nationals -165
Chicago Cubs +170 Philadelphia Phillies -210 Total: 9
Kyle Gibson has just not pitched well enough in a Phillies uniform for me to lay -210 juice on him, even at this point in the season in a must-win game for the Phillies. A lot of teams are playing in important games in September and I think the Cubs play the role of spoiler here.
Pick: Chicago Cubs +170
Tampa Bay Rays +110 Toronto Blue Jays -132 Total: 9
The Blue Jays have been on a tear but I do think the Rays take this game on the road on Tuesday. I like the Rays against the Jays' Jose Berrios and I think Tampa Bay scores plenty in this one.
Pick: Tampa Bay Rays +110
St. Louis Cardinals +132 New York Mets -158 Total: 8
Before yesterday's ugly loss the Mets took two of three in the Subway Series at Citi Field. I think they bounce back and take down the surging Cardinals as Marcus Stroman is on the mound for New York.
Colorado Rockies +141 Atlanta Braves -170 Total: 9
With one of the worst road records in baseball, I am still going to fade the Rockies away from Coors Field in this spot. I think we see a low-scoring ballgame in which Atlanta takes over late.
Pick: Atlanta Braves -170
(Game Two) Cleveland Indians +125 Minnesota Twins -145 Total: TBA
In game two of the doubleheader, I will take the Twins. The Indians' Logan Allen is the projected starter for Cleveland and he has been miserable on the year with an ERA north of 6.50.
Pick: Minnesota Twins ML
Houston Astros -210 Texas Rangers +170 Total: 9
We saw the Astros hit double-digits on the scoreboard on Monday night and I think we see more of the same on Tuesday. I do expect Texas to put up a fight and get to the Astros' Zack Greinke as well here. I will take the over.
Pick: Over 9
Los Angeles Angels +215 Chicago White Sox -265 Total: TBA
The Angels have lost three of their last four, all via the run-line as well. I will take the White Sox and lay the 1.5 to try and get a better price with the much better team at home.
Pick: Chicago White Sox -1.5
Oakland Athletics -160 Kansas City Royals +134 Total: 9
The Royals have played well at home this season but the A's are in desperation mode and have arguably their strongest starter on the mound in Frankie Montas. I expect the A's to find a victory at Kauffman on Tuesday night.
Pick: Oakland Athletics -160
San Diego Padres +131 San Francisco Giants -157 Total: 8.5
This is just a bad matchup for the Padres who certainly could use a win on Tuesday. San Diego's Jake Arrieta is not the pitcher you want to have on the mound in an imperative contest and I think the Giants take advantage.
Pick: San Francisco Giants -157
Arizona Diamondbacks +195 Los Angeles Dodgers -240 Total: 8.5
I expect the Diamondbacks to burn plenty of run-line money that the public will have on the Dodgers on Tuesday. We have seen time and time again weak teams covering run-lines in contests like this and I expect more of the same with the Diamondbacks' Luke Weaver on the mound.
Pick: Arizona Diamondbacks +1.5
Boston Red Sox -135 Seattle Mariners +113 Total: 8
I do not trust the Mariners' Tyler Anderson in this spot and I think the Red Sox hit him hard. I may look towards the run line in this contest, but the money line is always a good way to go. I expect a breakout performance from a Red Sox team that has lost its luster as of late.
Pick: Boston Red Sox -135
