Arizona Diamondbacks +175 Philadelphia Phillies -210 Total: 8.5
Taylor Widener has pitched well for the Diamondbacks, and their bullpen ranks 9th in the majors with a 3.85 ERA over the last two weeks. Offensively they rank fourth with a .273 average over that same stretch. The Phillies offense has been abysmal during the last 15 days, with their .193 average ranking 29th in the majors. Give me the Diamondbacks to steal one on the road.
Pick: Arizona Diamondbacks +175
St. Louis Cardinals -145 Pittsburgh Pirates +125 Total: 9
Pittsburgh has not been getting it done from the plate over the last two weeks, hitting just .218 with just over 3 runs per game. The Cardinals’ J.A. Happ has limited this Pirates offense to a .168 career average and zero home runs in 58 at bats. Take the Cardinals here.
Pick: St. Louis Cardinals -145
Tampa Bay Rays -240 Baltimore Orioles +195 Total: 10.5
Tampa’s Shane McClanahan limited this Orioles to just one hit and one run in his last start. Since then, the Orioles have just one win, breaking a 19-game losing streak. Baltimore’s expected starter Matt Harvey has a 15.63 ERA in 6.1 innings against the Rays this season, allowing 2 hits per inning. Lay the juice on the Rays.
Pick: Tampa Bay Rays -240
Boston Red Sox -180 Cleveland +155 Total: 9.5
Both teams have been raking of late, ranking in the top four in both average and OPS over the last week. The Indians have yet to announce a starter, and the Red Sox’ Eduardo Rodriguez was rocked for eight hits and five runs through 3.2 innings last time out. This has the makings of a slugfest. Take the over.
Pick: Over 9.5
Cincinnati Reds -135 Miami Marlins +115 Total: 7.5
The Reds’ southpaw Wade Miley will look to pick up his second straight win against the Marlins after allowing just two runs to them in his previous start. The Marlins rank near the bottom of the majors with a .235 average against lefties this season. Zach Thompson has had a great year for Miami, but he is a contact pitcher, and the Reds lead the league with 24 home runs over the last two weeks. Give me the Reds.
Pick: Cincinnati Reds -135
Toronto Blue Jays -155 Detroit Tigers +135 Total: 9
The Tigers’ Matt Manning has allowed 16 runs in his last 20.1 innings, and the Tigers are just 1-3 in those games. The Blue Jays Steven Matz has allowed just one run in each of his last two starts. Take the Blue Jays with good value on the road.
Pick: Toronto Blue Jays -155
Washington Nationals +180 New York Mets -220 Total: 8.5
The Mets offense has been struggling over the last 30 days, ranking 27th with a .227 average and just over 3 runs per game. On the flip side the Nationals have been heating up, cracking the top 5 in average over that same stretch. Neither starter has impressed this season, so take a chance on the Nationals here.
Pick: Washington Nationals +180
San Francisco Giants +105 Atlanta Braves -125 Total: 8.5
After a blistering start to the year, the Giants’ Kevin Gausman has cooled off of late. He Has allowed 10 runs and 15 hits in his last 13.2 innings pitched. The Braves Max Fried has allowed just 3 runs in his last three starts, including a complete game shutout in his last outing. Give me the Braves at home.
Pick: Atlanta Braves -125
Houston Astros -220 Texas Rangers +180 Total: 8.5
These teams are heading in different directions; over the last 30 days, the Astros lead the league with a .268 average while the Rangers are hitting just .227. In addition, the Rangers have yet to name a starter and their staff has been mediocre at best over the last two weeks. Take the Astros on the road.
Pick: Houston Astros -220
Chicago Cubs +180 Chicago White Sox -220 Total: 9
The Cubs’ Keegan Thompson has pitched well on the road, with a 3.66 ERA and 28 strikeouts in 19.2 innings. Their offense however has been abysmal, averaging just 1.6 runs per game over the last week. Even with the White Sox’ Dallas Keuchel’s struggles of late, do not expect lot of scoring in this one. Fade the total.
Pick: Under 9
Milwaukee Brewers -130 Minnesota Twins +110 Total: 9
The Twins Andrew Albers has only made one start this season, and he lasted just 4 innings pitched. The Brewers are 4-0 in Eric Lauer’s last 4 starts, and they are also 4-0 in his last 4 road games. The Brewers have also stepped it up from the plate over the last week. Take the Brewers on the road.
Pick: Milwaukee Brewers -130
San Diego Padres -160 Los Angeles Angels +140 Total: 8.5
The Padres Joe Musgrove has allowed under a hit per inning with a .216 OBA on the road this season. Meanwhile, despite Shohei Ohtani’s individual success, the Angels have underwhelmed from the plate since Mike Trout was injured. They rank 29th with a .223 average and just under 4 runs per game over the last month. Take the Padres here.
Pick: San Diego Padres -160
New York Yankees -120 Oakland Athletics +100 Total: 7
The Yankees have been on a roll and Gerrit Cole will be back on the mound for this one. He has allowed just one run in his last two starts, averaging over a strikeout per inning. The A’s Shawn Manaea has allowed 17 runs in his last four starts, only lasting 15.2 innings over that span. Considering the Yankees success against lefties this year, it is hard to bet against New York here.
Pick: New York Yankees -120
Colorado Rockies +195 Los Angeles Dodgers -240 Total: 9
The Rockies’ Kyle Freeland has pitched well in two starts against the Dodgers this season. The Dodgers have struggled with lefties all year, owning a .233 average they rank 28th in the league. On the flip side, the Dodgers staff has the best WHIP and ERA over the last 30 days. Take the under here.
Pick: Under 9
Kansas City Royals +150 Seattle Mariners -170 Total: 8
The Royals have been on a solid run from the plate, with a .274 average and six runs per game over the last week. Seattle’s Logan Gilbert has allowed five or more runs in each of his last two starts, raising his ERA to 5.16 for the year. The Mariners have also continued to struggle from the plate, ranking last in the major with a .223 average this season. Take the Royals to steal one on the road.
Pick: Kansas City Royals +150
