Atlanta Braves -140 Baltimore Orioles +120 Total: 9.5
The Orioles’ John Means has allowed 6+ runs in each of his last two starts. He has given up 5 home runs over that stretch. Over the last two weeks, the Braves rank fourth in the majors with 24 home runs. Give me the Braves on the road.
Pick: Atlanta Braves -140
Minnesota Twins +160 New York Yankees -190 Total: 10 (CANCELLED)
The Yankees’ Luis Gil has yet to allow a run in 15.2 innings pitched this season, and he was able to go 4.2 innings in his first start last time out. The Twins are hitting just .219 as a team over the last seven days, and they have yet to win in New York this season. Give me the Yanks at home.
Pick: New York Yankees -190
Detroit Tigers +225 Toronto Blue Jays -280 Total: 9.5
Detroit’s Drew Hutchinson made his first appearance since 2018 and tossed just 1.2 innings, allowing five hits and six runs. On the flip side, the Blue Jays’ Steven Matz has allowed just two earned runs in his last 3 starts. Lay the juice on Toronto.
Pick: Toronto Blue Jays -280
Chicago White Sox -105 Tampa Bay Rays -115 Total: 8.5
Tampa’s Chris Archer will be making his first start since April 10 after going down with an injury, so there are question marks there. The White Sox know what they are getting out of Reynaldo Lopez; he has not allowed a run in his first two starts after looking great coming out of the bullpen this season. Take the White Sox in a close one.
Pick: Chicago White Sox -105
Miami Marlins +120 Cincinnati Reds -140 Total: 8.5
Miami’s Sandy Alcantara has only allowed one run in his last 15 innings pitched. Meanwhile, the Reds’ Vladimir Gutierrez has tossed at least six innings and not allowed more than two runs in each of his last five starts. Look for this one to go under.
Pick: Under 8.5
Texas Rangers +225 Boston Red Sox -280 Total: 9.5
The Red Sox continue to swing the bat well, ranking second with a .286 average over the last two weeks. On the flip side, the Rangers have only averaged 3.5 runs per game over the same stretch. The Red Sox’ Nathan Eovaldi has gone at least seven innings in his last two starts at home, tossing 18 strikeouts with just three runs allowed. Take the Sox.
Pick: Boston Red Sox -280
Seattle Mariners +155 Houston Astros -180 Total: 8
The Mariners’ Tyler Anderson has pitched well of late, but the Astros rank first in the majors with a .273 average against lefties this season. The Astros also lead the league in hitting over the last two weeks. The Mariners have continued to struggle from the plate, hitting a collective .219 over that same stretch. Give me the Astros at home.
Pick: Houston Astros -180
Washington Nationals +225 Milwaukee Brewers -280 Total: 9
The Brewers’ Adrian Houser has only allowed two hits and one run in his last 11.1 innings pitched, and they are 9-1 in his last ten starts. The Nationals’ Sean Nolin allowed eight hits and four runs over three innings pitched in his first start last week. Take the Brewers to win by a few.
Pick: Milwaukee Brewers -1.5
Pittsburgh Pirates +175 St. Louis Cardinals -210 Total: 8
Pittsburgh is just 19-44 on the road this season, and they have had no success against the Cardinals’ Adam Wainwright this season. He has tossed 15.1 innings with just one run allowed, striking out 15. The Cardinals were able to get to the Pirates’ Steven Brault for a few runs the last time they played, which should be enough to get it done in this one.
Pick: St. Louis Cardinals -210
Kansas City Royals -105 Chicago Cubs -105 Total: 8.5
The Cubs are averaging just three runs per game over the last two weeks. They are also 0-3 in Alex Mills’ last three starts at home. The Royals have been swinging the bat well of late, so look for them to get the win on the road.
Pick: Kansas City Royals -105
Arizona Diamondbacks +180 Colorado Rockies -220 Total: 11.5
The Diamondbacks’ Taylor Widener has limited this Rockies lineup to just one hit in 11 at bats, and has allowed just 3 runs with 12 strikeouts in his last 10 innings pitched. Jon Gray has also pitched decent for the Rockies against the Diamondbacks this season, so look for this one to go under the big total.
Pick: Under 11.5
Philadelphia Phillies +155 San Diego Padres -180 Total: 8.5
Kyle Gibson has allowed 16 runs and 23 hits in 23 innings since joining Phillies. The Padres have yet to announce a starter for this one, and their staff ranks near the bottom of the league with a 5.53 ERA over the last week. Take the over.
Pick: Over 8.5
San Francisco Giants -110 Oakland Athletics -110 Total: 8.5
The Giants Logan Webb is 3-0 with a 1.78 ERA in August, and he has averaged over a strikeout per inning. Oakland’s staff has also been getting it done of late, with a 3.85 ERA and .231 OBA over the last two weeks. Fade the total.
Pick: Under 8.5
New York Mets +175 Los Angeles Dodgers -210 Total: 8.5
The Dodgers are 41-20 at home this season and have now won nine straight overall. The Mets offense has been atrocious, hitting just .218 with three runs per game over the last week. Lay the juice on L.A.
Pick: Los Angeles Dodgers -210
Los Angeles Angels +100 Cleveland Indians -120 Total: 9
The Angels offense has not looked good in Cleveland. It will not get any easier in the series finale, with Cal Quantrill getting the start. He has allowed just 3 runs in his last three starts at home, averaging over a strikeout per inning. Take the Indians at home.
Pick: Cleveland Indians -120
