We have 10 games on the schedule in Major League Baseball for Monday, August 16th, 2021. Let's take a look at the odds for each game and make some free betting picks as well.
Los Angeles Angels +210 New York Yankees -250 Total: 8.5
This is the Yankees' Gerrit Cole's first start since he ended up on the COVID list. I think both teams struggle to score here, as even though the Yankees' bats have heated up a bit, they are not where they need to be.
Pick: Under 8.5
Atlanta Braves -150 Miami Marlins +130 Total: 8.5
The Braves are now in sole possession of first place in the NL East. Not many people thought this was possible when Ronald Acuna Jr went down, but nonetheless, the Braves are playing great baseball and I think they find another win on Monday.
Pick: Atlanta Braves -150
Baltimore Orioles +190 Tampa Bay Rays -235 Total: 8
It is really difficult to take the Orioles for a full nine innings these days, but I like the O's in the first five on Monday. Matt Harvey has not pitched nearly as bad as he did at the start of the season and I do not trust Colin McHughes of the Rays. Taking the O's in the first five is worth a shot here.
Pick: Baltimore Orioles First Five Innings
Chicago Cubs +190 Cincinnati Reds -235 Total: 9
I expect plenty of runs at the second-best hitting park in the MLB on Monday. Wade Miley has struggled as of late and I think the Cubs do enough damage to get us over this total. The Reds bats should be able to do what we have seen them do all season long.
Pick: Over 9
Oakland Athletics -110 Chicago White Sox -110 Total: 9
I like the A's on the road here facing the White Sox's Dallas Keuchel. The Athletics' Frankie Montas has pitched well on the road and I think Oakland gives him ample amount of run support here.
Pick: Oakland Athletics -110
Cleveland Indians +105 Minnesota Twins -125 Total: 9.5
I am not too sure why the Twins are the favorites here as even though they have played well recently, they are dominated in this pitching matchup. The Indians' Cal Quantrill has been great in his past five starts and I do not trust the Twins' Griffin Jax. The Indians blew out the Tigers on Sunday and I think that carries on to Monday's ballgame.
Pick: Cleveland Indians +105
Houston Astros -160 Kansas City Royals +140 Total: 10
I do not love this price with the road Astros here, but to me, it is Houston or pass. The Astros' Jake Odorizzi is not a pitcher I back too often but the Royals have been hideous as of late. I will side with the better team here.
Pick: Houston Astros -160
San Diego Padres -135 Colorado Rockies +115 Total: 12
I think we see plenty of offense at Coors Field on Monday night. Ryan Weathers of the Padres should not be in the rotation, as a move to the bullpen would serve him a lot better than being a starter. Weathers is in trouble here, but with Tatis in the lineup, I think the Padres are up for an offensive shootout themselves. I will take the over.
Pick: Over 12
New York Mets +160 San Francisco Giants -185 Total: 8
The Mets are having a second-half collapse as their offense has been abysmal. Until they figure it out, they are on auto-fade, especially when you look at this pitching matchup. The Mets' Rich Hill is in trouble and the Giants' Kevin Gausman should provide his team with a strong start. I like the Giants in a comfortable victory.
Pick: San Francisco Giants -1.5
Pittsburgh Pirates +290 Los Angeles Dodgers -380 Total: 9
This game and this series is one I am more than likely going to stay as far away from as possible. I will take the Pirates on the run line as we are getting plus money. The Pirates were at least competitive with the Brewers in their weekend series, so I think they are worth a shot getting a run and a half here. This is obviously not a game I am running to the window to bet, though.
Pick: Pittsburgh Pirates +1.5
