It is Sunday, August 8th, 2021 in the MLB and we have all 30 teams in action. Let's take a look at each of the 15 games on the schedule and find some value with these free betting picks.
Seattle Mariners +140 New York Yankees -160 Total: 9.5
The Yankees have had the Mariners number this season and in this series but I think the Mariners salvage the final game of this four-game set. Yusei Kikuchi, the Mariners' All-Star starter, will be on the mound and should control the Yankees bats. All the value is on Seattle here.
Pick: Seattle Mariners +140
New York Mets +143 Philadelphia Phillies -166 Total: 8
The Mets are playing arguably their worst baseball all season long. The Mets' offense has been non-existent and a lot of that stems from their struggles with runners in scoring position. The Phillies' Zack Wheeler is the better starter here and should defeat his former team.
Pick: Philadelphia Phillies -166
Tampa Bay Rays -180 Baltimore Orioles +155 Total: 10.5
The Orioles may have some interesting bats in their lineup but they have one of the worst pitching staff's in the league. I think both teams score plenty here and we see this game go way over the total.
Pick: Over 10.5
Boston Red Sox +180 Toronto Blue Jays -210 Total: 9
The Blue Jays are still very much in the Wild Card and even divisional playoff races. This is a great spot for the Blue Jays to earn a home victory over their AL East rivals. With Toronto's ace, Hyun Jin Ryu, on the mound I think the Jays earn the win and do it comfortably.
Pick: Toronto Blue Jays -1.5
Detroit Tigers +150 Cleveland Indians -175 Total: 9.5
I like the over between the Tigers and Indians. The Indians may not score a ton of runs in general but I believe they match up well with Wily Peralta of the Tigers here. I expect Detroit to tag the Indians' Zach Plesac for a few early here as well.
Pick: Over 9.5
Pittsburgh Pirates +205 Cincinnati Reds -240 Total: 9.5
Tyler Mahle of the Reds has very polar opposite splits when pitching at home vs. the road. At home, Mahle has really struggled and is virtually unplayable, especially at a -240 price. The Reds may have a much stronger lineup, but I think the Buckos surprise the league with an upset win.
Pick: Pittsburgh Pirates +205
Washington Nationals +175 Atlanta Braves -205 Total: 9
The Braves are still in the NL East race and will win this game by a few runs at least. The Braves should get to the Nationals' Patrick Corbin early and often. I think the Braves' Max Fried pitches well enough for his 9th win of the season. I will lay the 1.5 with Atlanta here.
Pick: Atlanta Braves -1.5
Minnesota Twins +170 Houston Astros -200 Total: 9
With the Twins' Kenta Maeda and the Astros' Lance McCullers Jr on the mound, I think runs are hard to come by. Both the Twins and Astros have above-average offenses, but I think pitching will dominate this game on Sunday.
Pick: Under 9
San Francisco Giants +110 Milwaukee Brewers -130 Total: 9
I am going to gladly take the Giants at plus money and fade Brett Anderson of the Brewers. Anderson has managed to pitch well despite glaring advanced analytics going against him. The luck runs out in this one for Anderson and San Fran earns an important road victory.
Pick: San Francisco Giants +110
Kansas City Royals +132 St. Louis Cardinals -152 Total: 9.5
I am not a huge fan of the Royals' Kris Bubic but I do believe he is slightly the lesser of two evils when compared to the Cardinals' Jon Lester. The Royals have been atrocious on the road this year but I think they manage to win this road rivalry game in St. Louis.
Pick: Kansas City Royals +132
Miami Marlins +135 Colorado Rockies -155 Total: 10.5
I do not think this matchup benefits the Marlins in any way. The Marlins rely on their young and effective pitching staff. When in Coors, oftentimes pitching is thrown out the window. I think the Rockies' bats are too much for the Fish here.
Pick: Colorado Rockies -155
Texas Rangers +170 Oakland Athletics -200 Total: 8.5
Saturday's game in Oakland was high-scoring (for mostly the A's) and I think we see more of the same on Sunday. I expect the Athletics to get to the Rangers' Jordan Lyles and for this game to go well over the number.
Pick: Over 8.5
Los Angeles Angels +245 Los Angeles Dodgers -295 Total: 8.5
Taking the Dodgers is not an option as there is no value and I do not trust the rookie of the Angels, Reid Detmers, quite yet. I think the Dodgers earn a low-scoring victory as Walker Buehler dazzles yet again. I will take the under in this LA battle.
Pick: Under 8.5
Arizona Diamondbacks +180 San Diego Padres -210 Total: 8.5
I will take the chunk of value with the D-Backs here as I think it is worth a shot. The Padres' Blake Snell has a 5.24 ERA and has not shown me that he warrants a -210 price, even at home. The D-Backs' Madison Bumgarner has pitched very well in his last four starts, so I will take a chance with Arizona.
Pick: Arizona Diamondbacks +180
Chicago White Sox -185 Chicago Cubs +160 Total: TBA
I do not love the price but I do like the way the White Sox are playing in this Chicago series. I think the Cubs' Zach Davies is in trouble in this start and all the White Sox's Dylan Cease has to be is decent. I will take the White Sox but it is not a play I am rushing to the window for.
Pick: Chicago White Sox -185
