Only 11 games on the schedule for Thursday, July 29th, 2021 in the MLB. There is still plenty of value to be found, so let’s take a look at each game for Thursday in Major League Baseball.
Atlanta Braves +115 New York Mets -135 Total: 8.5
The Mets are adding to their lead in the NL East and I think they add yet another game with a win on Thursday. The Mets' Taijuan Walker has not been the sharpest as of late but he is much easier to back than the Braves' Drew Smyly in this spot.
Pick: New York Mets -135
(Game 1) Washington Nationals Philadelphia Phillies Total:
The Nationals and Phillies will meet in a doubleheader on Thursday. The Nationals have not announced a game one starter while the Phillies are projected to go with Zack Wheeler. I will lean with the Phillies and Wheeler but check back for updates. UPDATE: It looks like this doubleheader is on for Thursday, but with so many uncertainties for the Nationals, I have to side with Philadelphia in game one.
Pick: Philadelphia Phillies ML
New York Yankees -145 Tampa Bay Rays +125 Total: 8
With the Yankees' ace in Gerrit Cole on the mound and the chance to sweep a division rival, I think New York gets the job done. The Yankees are back in the playoff push and are only 2.5 games out of the last Wild Card spot in the AL. A win with their ace here is expected.
Pick: New York Yankees -145
Chicago White Sox -180 Kansas City Royals +155 Total: 9.5
I expect a very strong bounce-back start by the White Sox's Carlos Rodon. The Royals have been a thorn in the White Sox's side this series but I think Chicago gets the better of them on Thursday.
Pick: Chicago White Sox -1.5
Cincinnati Reds -115 Chicago Cubs -105 Total: TBA
Luis Castillo of the Reds has been a much better pitcher as of late than he was at the beginning of the year. After a blowout victory on Wednesday, I think the Reds take it to the Cubs yet again on Thursday with another road victory and a series win.
Pick: Cincinnati Reds -115
Los Angeles Dodgers -135 San Francisco Giants +115 Total: 8.5
Is Johnny Cueto the pitcher we have seen in years past, no; but he does not have to be for the Giants to win this game. Getting plus money with the home team here is very valuable in my eyes. I think the Giants get to David Price early and earn the win.
Pick: San Francisco Giants +115
Milwaukee Brewers -190 Pittsburgh Pirates +160 Total: 8
Freddy Peralta struggled a bit against the Pirates the last time he faced them but I expect a better outing this time around. I think both teams struggle to score in this one, therefore I like the under.
Pick: Under 8
(Game Two) Washington Nationals -140 Philadelphia Phillies +120 Total: 8
I am going to take the over in game two, as I think both of these pitching staffs are going to be drained after the first game of this doubleheader. With the Nationals' Patrick Corbin and the Phillies' Vince Velasquez as the projected starters, it is safe to say that this could be a long night.
Pick: Over 8
Baltimore Orioles +135 Detroit Tigers -155 Total: 9.5
Both the Orioles and Tigers have been scoring a ton of runs as of late. Both teams combined for 25 runs yesterday yet they allowed a combined 21 runs to their opposition. I think we see more of the same on Thursday, as I will take the over.
Pick: Over 9.5
Toronto Blue Jays -105 Boston Red Sox -115 Total: 10
We have two lefties on the mound on Thursday between these two teams but I am going to side with the Blue Jays' Hyun Jin Ryu. Ryu could use a strong start against a tough lineup and although I think he allows a few in this outing, I expect the Toronto bats to back him up.
Pick: Toronto Blue Jays -105
Oakland Athletics -105 Los Angeles Angels -115 Total: 8.5
Other than liking the under in this game, I like the Angels on the money line as a small favorite. Alex Cobb of the Angels is one of the more underrated pitchers in my eyes and I think he has a strong showing. The Angels find a win late in this one at home.
Pick: Los Angeles Angels -115
Colorado Rockies +225 San Diego Padres -280 Total: 8.5
It is worth the shot with the Rockies on Thursday in my opinion. We are getting more than two-to-one on our money and the Rockies have proven that they are not as abysmal on the road as they were at the start of the year. Trevor Story rumors heat up but I think the Rockies have enough to steal one on the road here.
Pick: Colorado Rockies +225
