We have nine games on the schedule in Major League Baseball for Thursday, July 22nd, 2021. Let's take a closer look at each game and make some picks for each contest as well.
Texas Rangers +100 Detroit Tigers -120 Total: 9.5
The Tigers are on a roll and are only five games below .500 after a rough start to the season. The Rangers are struggling and that makes it hard to back them in this spot. I will take the home team in the Tigers here.
Pick: Detroit Tigers -120
Atlanta Braves -133 Philadelphia Phillies +113 Total: 9
I cannot back the Phillies' Matt Moore here, even at home where the Phillies have been strong. Wherever the direction the Braves are heading, I think it is better than Moore and the Phillies' bullpen.
Pick: Atlanta Braves -133
New York Yankees +110 Boston Red Sox -120 Total: 10
The Yankees could use another series win against their division rivals but I think the Red Sox and Tanner Houck earn the first win of the set. The Yankees' Jordan Montgomery should be in trouble against such a dangerous Red Sox lineup at Fenway Park.
Pick: Boston Red Sox -120
San Diego Padres -150 Miami Marlins +130 Total: 8
I am going to take a shot with the Marlins here with all of the plus money. The Padres' Blake Snell has not been good enough with his above 5.00 ERA to warrant a -150 price.
Pick: Miami Marlins +130
Tampa Bay Rays -135 Cleveland Indians +115 Total: 9.5
I think the Rays take it to the Indians in this series and that includes the first game at Progressive Field. The Rays will start either Luis Patino or Josh Fleming and either is a good option in my opinion. I think the Rays' bats get to the Indians' Cal Quantrill early.
Pick: Tampa Bay Rays -135
Chicago Cubs +113 St. Louis Cardinals -133 Total: 8
I am going to lean with Kwang Hyun Kim and the Cardinals at home in this one, although this is not a game I am rushing to bet. The Cubs' Adbert Alzolay still has to develop a bit for me to take him against a division rival like St. Louis.
Pick: St. Louis Cardinals -133
Los Angeles Angels +120 Minnesota Twins -140 Total: 9
I think the Twins score plenty of runs early and often in this one. The Twins' Kenta Maeda has to be sharp in the first few innings in order for the Twins' bullpen not to cough up yet another game. It's a tall order for Minnesota but I like its chances.
Pick: Minnesota Twins -140
Oakland Athletics -135 Seattle Mariners +115 Total: 8
The Mariners and Athletics meet in a series that means a lot to both clubs. The Mariners look to gain some ground in the division while the A's look to distance themselves a bit. My money is going with Oakland in game one, as I trust Sean Manaea of the A's a bit more than I do the Mariners' Chris Flexen.
Pick: Oakland A's -135
San Francisco Giants +149 Los Angeles Dodgers -174 Total: 8
Why not take a shot with Anthony DeSclafani and the Giants getting 1.5 times our money on the road. The Giants are far too undervalued for me to not take a chance with them here.
Pick: San Francisco Giants +149
